The statement came as Houthi forces claimed to have launched a missile attack on a commercial ship in the Red Sea and a drone attack on southern Israel.

Meanwhile, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it had recorded multiple explosions near the port of Hodeida, on Yemen’s western coast. However, the transit ship and its crew were safe. According to UKMTO, two other explosions also occurred near a ship passing through the port of Hodeida.

The Houthis now control most of Yemen's Red Sea border areas. Since the Gaza conflict began, the Houthis have carried out more than 100 drone and missile attacks, targeting 10 commercial vessels from 35 countries traveling in the Red Sea, the world 's most important shipping route, with 12% of the world's cargo passing through, according to the Pentagon.

To avoid the risk of Houthi rebels attacking the Red Sea, international cargo ships have to go around the Cape of Good Hope in southern Africa. But they face problems with refueling and replenishment, overcrowding and poor facilities.
