In the presidential election in Venezuela held on July 28, the Venezuelan National Electoral Council declared Mr. Nicolas Maduro as President-elect for the 2025-2031 term.

Since then, protests have erupted in Venezuela, with clashes between police and protesters. According to the country's Attorney General's Office, more than 2,000 people have been arrested for vandalism of state infrastructure, incitement of hatred and terrorism, after President Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner.

Updated information on August 31, Venezuela Prison Monitor - a human rights activist group, said that more than 700 people arrested in protests that broke out after the controversial presidential election in Venezuela have been transferred to maximum security prisons.

Meanwhile, the Venezuelan government accused some countries of interfering in the election and the self-determination of its people.

* Also on September 2 (local time), a court in Venezuela issued an arrest warrant for opposition presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia - the man who claimed to have won the election at the end of July.

On Instagram , the Venezuelan Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the court had approved its request for an arrest warrant for Mr. Gonzalez for "serious crimes."

On September 2, the Venezuelan Attorney General's Office said a court had issued an arrest warrant for opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia on charges of multiple crimes.

Attorney General Tarek Saab shared a photo of the arrest warrant with the press via a message on the Telegram app. The warrant was issued at the request of prosecutor Luis Ernesto Duenez, who accused González of conspiracy to usurp power, falsifying public documents, inciting rebellion against the law, and conspiracy against the Venezuelan state.

Previously, Mr. González did not comply with three summonses to testify in the case of an opposition website announcing incorrect results in the Venezuelan presidential election.

In addition to González, Attorney General Saab also opened a criminal investigation into opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and the opposition's vote-counting website, and arrested several people involved for inciting protests after the recent presidential election.
