On March 12, 108 Central Military Hospital said that a male student was hospitalized due to a rare accident, with a key still stuck deep in his head.

The male student was taken to the hospital by his family in a conscious state, with severe pain in the injured area, and the wound had stopped bleeding.

Upon receiving the patient, the doctors quickly examined, performed a CT scan and performed the necessary tests to assess the injury. After consultation, the patient was scheduled for emergency surgery to remove the foreign object from the head area.

Dr. Do Khac Hau, deputy head of the neurosurgery department at the 108 Central Military Hospital, said the surgery was successful, helping to completely remove the foreign object without causing further serious damage to the patient.

"Especially, the wound is located close to the transverse sinus, if the injury deviates just a few millimeters, it can be life-threatening due to sinus injury causing bleeding. After a period of active treatment, the patient recovered well," Dr. Hau shared.

Doctors advise that school-age children are very active and sometimes not fully aware of the risks of injury in daily activities.

To limit unfortunate accidents, parents, teachers, schools and community health facilities need to regularly remind and equip children and students with safety knowledge.

Some important measures include accident prevention education and basic first aid instruction so that young children can protect themselves. Strengthen supervision at home, on school grounds, especially in playgrounds, stairs, hallways, etc.
