The article "The great-grandson of the great-grandmother Thi No has passed the entrance exam to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry" published on Tuoi Tre Online on September 23, about male student Nguyen Tuan Kiet has attracted the attention of many readers. This poor student who grew up not knowing where his father and mother were, after receiving support and help from the school and the community, has officially entered the university lecture hall.

Fully sponsored tuition, accommodation, and living expenses

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Dr. Tran Dinh Ly - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - said that Nguyen Tuan Kiet was admitted to the information systems major and has officially enrolled at the school.

"Nguyen Tuan Kiet is a very good student but his circumstances are extremely difficult. Right after Tuoi Tre newspaper introduced this example of overcoming difficulties to study well, Co May dormitory (a unit cooperating with Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry) accepted new student Kiet and sponsored all tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and skill training...", Mr. Ly shared.

Ms. Hoang Thi Lan - Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry - added that like the students admitted to Co May dormitory (this year there are 115 students selected), Nguyen Tuan Kiet is supported with free food and accommodation at the dormitory and is also subsidized for the entire tuition fee in the first semester and is subsidized for additional foreign language, IT and soft skills classes...

In the following semesters, the dormitory will base on the previous semester's academic results to consider the specific level of subsidy. If the results are good, the full tuition will still be subsidized.

Co May Dormitory is located on the campus of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry (Ward 6, Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc City) sponsored by businesswoman Pham Van Ben, the result of the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry and Co May Company Limited, built with the aim of supporting poor students with good academic performance.

Thereby, helping young people with difficult circumstances but with the will to rise up, have favorable conditions to complete university.

Grandma was happy and sad but still worried.

On September 24, Nguyen Tuan Kiet said that the first classes at university have begun.

"With the help of teachers at the Student Affairs Office of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, I was specially accepted into the Co May dormitory. Being able to live in this dormitory is really like a dream.

My brothers, sisters, and friends in this dormitory are all people with very difficult family circumstances, studying at many universities... Everyone is happy, active, and supports each other enthusiastically.

I am truly touched and appreciate the encouragement and help from teachers, friends and readers of Tuoi Tre newspaper in the past few days. This initial support gives me the motivation to continue studying well," Kiet confided.

After we informed him that Kiet had completed the paperwork and settled down in the dormitory, Mrs. Tu (Nguyen Thi No, Kiet's great-grandmother) was both happy and sad: "Kiet has never left the district since he was young, so when he took the bus to Thu Duc, I was at home worried and anxious. Going to Saigon University is not an easy task, with tuition, food, lodging... Now that he has been helped by good people, he has the conditions to eat, live, and study, so I am less worried."

Meanwhile, Kiet said that for the past few days, his grandmother has been crying all the time, because she is afraid that her only great-grandchild will go to the city to study and will not have a stable life. Moreover, for a long time, the two great-grandchildren have depended on each other, but now she is alone… so she is even more worried.

"I have lived with my grandmother since I was little, so now that I am studying far from home, she is not used to it and feels empty. She is old and has high blood pressure and has to take medicine every day. She is worried that if something happens in the middle of the night, no one will take her to the emergency room. Moreover, my great-grandmother is old and weak. If she goes to Ho Chi Minh City to study, who will take care of her? I am really worried. I hope she is healthy," Kiet expressed.
