Heat wave breaks out in Central Vietnam

The heat wave in the Central region will last until around July 19 and 20 and may extend to the North.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on July 15, heat waves appeared in the area from Ha Tinh to Da Nang and the eastern provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak, with the highest temperature commonly ranging from 35-36 degrees Celsius, many places above 36 degrees Celsius.

Some localities recorded clearly high temperatures such as: Dong Hoi (Quang Tri) and Tam Ky (Da Nang) both reached 36.1 degrees Celsius; Ba To (Quang Ngai) 36.3 degrees Celsius; An Nhon (Gia Lai) 36.5 degrees Celsius; Tuy Hoa ( Dak Lak ) 36.2 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was low, only fluctuating between 55-65%, increasing the feeling of heat and dryness.

It is forecasted that in the next 1-2 days, the heat wave will continue in the Central region and may spread to the North. In the North, the heat wave may last until July 18. The Central region will continue to suffer from heat until around July 19 and 20.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting noted that the actual temperature may be 2-4 degrees Celsius higher than the forecast, especially in urban areas where there is a lot of concrete and asphalt roads that absorb heat. People need to proactively take measures to prevent heat and should not go outside during hot weather to avoid health effects.

While the Central region was hot and sunny, last night and early morning of July 16, many areas in the Northern mountainous region, the Central Highlands and the South experienced heavy localized rain. Some places recorded unusually high rainfall such as: Phu Dinh (Thai Nguyen) up to nearly 130mm, Ta Tong (Lai Chau) 82.8mm, Tan Thanh (Tuyen Quang) 70.4mm and Mo Ra ( Kon Tum ) 82.4mm.

It is forecasted that during the day and night of July 16, the mountainous areas of the North will continue to have showers, especially in the late afternoon and night, with some places having heavy rain, with common rainfall of 15-30mm, with some places over 70mm.

In the Central and Southern Highlands, thunderstorms will appear in the afternoon and evening with an average rainfall of 10-30mm, in some places over 60mm.
