On June 10, Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said that the US government has no intention of seeking a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine and continues to send weapons to the Kiev government.

"The US continues to pump new batches of lethal weapons into its regions. Such an impressive allocation of financial resources for these purposes proves one thing: Washington has no intention of seeking a diplomatic solution to the conflict," Antonov said.

The Russian official criticized officials from the current Washington administration "for doing nothing to bring President Zelensky's administration to the negotiating table."

Meanwhile, on the same day, June 10, the British Government described different developments between Ukrainian and Russian forces fighting in southern and eastern Ukraine in the past 48 hours.

"In some areas, Ukrainian forces may have made good progress and penetrated the first line of Russian defence. In other areas, Ukrainian progress has been slower. Russian activity has also been erratic: some units have been able to conduct credible mobile defence operations while others have retreated in some disarray, amid reports of increasing Russian casualties as they retreated through their own minefields," the UK Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

In a related development, Ukraine's Defense Ministry quoted Deputy Defense Minister Volodymyr Gavrilov as saying on June 10 that Ukraine will receive an action plan to achieve NATO membership at the alliance's upcoming Vilnius summit, and the country will manage to join the bloc within two years after the end of the current conflict.

On its Telegram page, the ministry said - in his comments, Mr. Gavrilov noted that at the summit in July, NATO countries "will agree on a certain procedure for our accession, which will be formalized."

Gavrilov also said that despite the consensus decision-making and veto power of NATO members, Ukraine's accession to NATO would not be "a big problem", adding that the country "will get what it wants in a certain format".

"Now, at the Vilnius Summit, Ukraine should understand that after the war, say within a year or two, after certain procedures are completed - we will become a member of NATO," the Ukrainian official said.

Also related to the situation in Ukraine, on June 10, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Kiev to express support as the country is said to be preparing for a major counter-offensive.

Mr. Trudeau paid his respects at a memorial in central Kiev for Ukrainian soldiers who died fighting pro-Russian forces since 2014.

As a NATO member, Canada - a country with one of the largest Ukrainian communities in the world - has provided financial and military support to Ukraine during Russia's special military operation since February 2022.
