Nghe An: Prolonged heavy rain causes landslides and mountain cracks

Prolonged heavy rains have caused landslides, mountain cracks, and flooding in many areas in Nghe An province.

Landslide on National Highway 7A through Tam Thai commune

On the afternoon of August 31, Mr. Lo Duong Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Thai commune ( Nghe An province) said that due to prolonged heavy rain, landslides and flooding occurred in some places in the commune, causing isolation.

Currently, the spillway on Provincial Road 541B is deeply flooded, separating the commune center from the inner villages. National Highway 7A near Khe Quyen Bridge has also collapsed, causing rocks and soil to flow onto the road. The commune authorities had to assign people to be on duty to ensure the safety of the people.

Overflow bridges on Provincial Road 541B are deeply flooded.

In addition to traffic, heavy rain also causes serious landslides, threatening people's lives.

The Tam Thai Commune Civil Defense Command coordinated with forces to urgently evacuate Ms. Luong Thi Cuc's family in Na Tong village to a safe place.

Dinh Phong Bridge was severely damaged.

In Tam Quang commune, heavy rain caused the Dinh Phong bridge over Lam river to collapse and be damaged. This is the bridge connecting Dinh Phong village to Dinh Tien, Dinh Huong, and Dinh Thang villages.

As soon as the incident was discovered, local authorities put up barricades to prevent people from passing through. This incident temporarily isolated nearly 300 households.

In addition to Dinh Phong bridge, many roads in Tam Quang area also suffered serious landslides, causing difficulties and dangers for passersby.

Mountain crack in Long Quang village, Tien Phong commune

Prolonged heavy rains also caused cracks in the mountain in Long Quang village, Tien Phong commune. Ms. Lo Thi Nguyet, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that after inspection, the cracks were more than 100m long, with an average depth of about 60cm, located on a steep mountainside, with a high risk of landslides. At the foot of the mountain, there are 2 households and a civil carpentry workshop with 28 people living and working.

Immediately after the inspection, the commune organized 24/7 surveillance to monitor geological developments and prepare plans to evacuate people to safety.
