Van Cu vermicelli making profession receives the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage

(Fatherland) - On February 19, at Van Cu village - Nam Thanh, Huong Toan commune, Huong Tra town ( Hue city), the ceremony to receive the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage for Van Cu vermicelli making profession took place.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nong Quoc Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism); Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee; representatives of departments, branches; leaders of Huong Tra Town; artisans, along with a large number of people and tourists.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee announced Decision No. 3979/QD-BVHTTDL dated December 10, 2024 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on including the traditional craft "Van Cu vermicelli making" in the List of national intangible cultural heritage.

Receiving the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage for the Van Cu vermicelli making profession.

It is known that the traditional craft of making vermicelli in Van Cu village was formed more than 400 years ago. Over time, the Van Cu vermicelli craft has affirmed its brand and position in the domestic and foreign consumption markets. This is also the only locality in the Central region that holds a ceremony to worship the founder of the craft, the Vermicelli Lady, on the 22nd day of the first lunar month.

With the maintenance and important contributions to the development of traditional craft and craft villages, in 2014, Van Cu vermicelli craft village was recognized as a "traditional craft village" of Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue city). Currently, the craft village attracts more than 100 households to participate in vermicelli production.

Every day, the finished product of Bun Van Cu is delivered to markets, eateries, restaurants, etc. by villagers and wholesalers, along with the typical delicacies of Hue. This has contributed to creating the brand of "Bun Bo Hue" which is famous far and wide.

Re-enacting the traditional noodle making profession of Van Cu villagers.

With the aim of promoting and honoring the unique cultural values ​​of the locality, on the occasion of the Ceremony to receive the title of National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Van Cu Vermicelli Making Profession, the People's Committee of Huong Tra Town organized many unique cultural activities on February 18 and 19 in Van Cu village - Nam Thanh.

Specifically, there are activities such as: Ba Bun worship ceremony - a traditional ritual performed by local people at Ba Bun temple to pay tribute and commemorate the founder of the craft village; Display and introduction of local OCOP specialty products; Vietnamese Bun Heritage Culinary Festival - Van Cu Bun Village, a gathering place for culinary artisans from 3 regions to exchange dishes with regional cultural flavors made from vermicelli products; Art program "Proud of Van Cu Mud Village Heritage"; Cycling activity to the beloved land of Huong Toan; Journey to discover Van Cu vermicelli making profession for students...

Promoting memories of the old noodle stalls of Van Cu noodle making village.

In particular, the program reenacted the traditional noodle making profession of the people of Van Cu village; and the memories of the mothers and grandmothers carrying noodles in the fields in the past. Thereby, contributing to promoting the image of local community tourism to tourists and people.

On this occasion, the Organizing Committee awarded 2 collectives and 5 individuals with many contributions to the work of preserving and promoting the value of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage of Van Cu Vermicelli Craft.
