Not only is she a dedicated manager, she is also a creative and dedicated female union member. She was recently honored by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor as a “Dynamic, Creative, and Responsible Female Union Member” for the first time in 2025.

From young workers to dedicated managers
More than 20 years ago, the young girl Nguyen Thi Dung, born in 1979, in the old Uy No commune, now Dong Anh commune ( Hanoi ), stepped into the Canon Vietnam factory with many surprises. In the first days working on the assembly line, she had to learn each operation, get used to the strict process, and the urgent production pace. But with the will to progress and the spirit of discipline, she quickly matured, from an assembly worker to Deputy Head of Assembly Department, in charge of more than 1,000 workers.
“The biggest thing I learned at work is to listen and empathize. Every worker has value, as long as they are trusted and given opportunities, they will contribute a lot and do good things,” Dung shared with a gentle smile.
Thanks to her effective management style, her department has been awarded the title of "Excellent Labor Collective" for many years, always leading in productivity, product quality and internal solidarity.
Working closely with workers directly in production every day makes Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung always think and look for ways to innovate. For her, innovation is not something far away, but starts from small operations in labor, helping employees' work less difficult, increasing productivity, and reducing errors.
In the program “1 million initiatives, efforts to overcome difficulties, determination to defeat the Covid-19 pandemic”, she made her mark with an automated solution to supply components, optimally combining human and machine operations. This innovation helps cut 300 indirect workers, saving more than 30 billion VND/year, while at the same time, increasing the flexibility of the production line in the context of strong fluctuations in the global component market.
Next, Ms. Dung made her colleagues admire her when she "untied the knot" for the new generation of machines, which was considered the most difficult ever. Just by restructuring the product flow and intelligently allocating human resources, she helped the company save more than 1 million USD.
Not stopping there, she continued to convert the training area, applying a smart management system instead of manual recording, helping to shorten training time and at the same time, increasing efficiency right from the stage when new workers started working.
Ms. Dung shared: “Initiatives are not always successful. Sometimes they are wrong, sometimes they are tried and failed. But the valuable thing is that you learn from the wrong times.” From her own experience, Ms. Dung encourages the teams in the department to participate in the “Technical Innovation Initiative” movement. In 2024-2025 alone, her team had many initiatives that were applied in practice.
“What I am most proud of is seeing young people become more confident, daring to think and propose. When the spirit of creativity spreads, that is the most sustainable success,” said Ms. Dung.
Warm heart of a union official

Chairman of the Trade Union of Canon Vietnam Co., Ltd. Nguyen Anh Ngoc said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung is not only good at her professional work, but also takes on many roles: Member of the Executive Committee of the Women's Union, Treasurer of the grassroots Trade Union. From advising on adjusting shift meals, proposing policies to support pregnant female workers, to organizing bonding activities, all of them are meticulously and thoughtfully implemented by her and her colleagues.
With her cooperation, many humanitarian activities are maintained regularly such as "Zero-dong stall", "Giving love during Tet", "Canon family festival"... During the Covid-19 pandemic, she and her colleagues directly mobilized and donated thousands of masks and necessities to workers in difficulty. Besides, she is the initiator of many practical movements such as "Canon women - Good at public work, good at housework", "Innovation club of female workers".
In addition, Ms. Dung is also an internal lecturer of Canon Vietnam - the person who directly teaches the courses "Production Improvement and Innovation" and soft skills for team leaders and managers.
As one of the students who was trained by Ms. Dung, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam (printer assembly line specialist) shared that every year, Ms. Dung spends time training at least two courses, persistently passing on valuable experiences drawn from actual production. Her training sessions are not as dry as a technical class. With a soft voice, friendly eyes, she inspires students from real situations in the factory, from failures that she herself had to pay the price for, how to overcome them... to successes in the profession so that students can gradually absorb and understand. This is the special point that makes Ms. Tam and many other students always excited in every class taught by Ms. Dung and more clearly define their personal development goals for work.
During more than 2 decades of working, Ms. Dung's silent efforts and tireless dedication have been recognized with many awards. Each title is a milestone, a mark on her journey of working, creating and contributing. That is the Certificate of Merit from the Hanoi City Labor Federation for her outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of Good Labor, Creative Labor; the title "Good Worker of the Capital".
Notably, in 2025, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung was honored in the top 10 outstanding female union members nationwide, receiving the "Dynamic, Creative, Responsible Female Union Member" Award - an award held every 5 years by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, recognizing the contributions of outstanding female union officials nationwide.
