Farmers in Tri Ton and Tinh Bien districts ( An Giang province) are busy entering the biggest cassava harvest of the year.

From 5am, strong men are assigned to pull cassava and collect it into baskets. This is the most strenuous work during the harvest.

Women were assigned to chop tubers, sort potatoes and count the quantity.

After being sorted, cassava will be loaded onto trucks by men for sale.

The cassava harvesters are local workers, working hard from dawn to dusk. With a group of 10 people, they harvest 10-12 tons of cassava every day.

Mr. Huynh Van Bay (Tinh Bien, An Giang) said: "For each ton of cassava, we are paid 400,000 VND. On the most productive day, we can harvest more than 1 ton."

Traders are present in the fields to buy cassava.

Cassava is commonly grown by farmers in the Bay Nui region of An Giang as an industrial type of cassava (locals often call it state cassava).

According to the people, this is a very easy to grow plant, requires little care, can withstand the aridity of the soil in the area, and has low production costs, so households with little capital can also generate income from this plant.

Cassava is a staple crop, providing the main source of income for many households in An Giang.

According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the cassava growing area in 2023 will reach more than 680 hectares, mainly concentrated in Tinh Bien and Tri Ton districts.

In recent years, An Giang province has focused on investing in improving cassava productivity and quality.
