On September 28, Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang - Head of the Department of Quality Management and Information Technology of the Department of Education and Training of An Giang province - said that the department recently coordinated with The Vietnam Foundation (VNF) to deploy the course "AI in education" on the Khan Academy (KAV) platform to more than 40,000 teachers from kindergarten to high school, continuing education and intermediate level online.
The course has equipped teachers with an overview of AI, digital ethics, AI applications in the classroom, etc. "Depending on the conditions, each teacher will study for 2-4 weeks. This is a theoretical class on AI to support teachers in the classroom," said Mr. Dang.
This is the first province in the Mekong Delta to deploy comprehensive AI training for all teachers, not only meeting the immediate need for digital skills training, but also in line with the spirit of Resolution 71 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development.
In just one month, nearly 90% of teachers in An Giang province attended the course and successfully completed the final exam. But more important are the changes in teachers' awareness and teaching methods.
Mr. Huynh Ba Hieu - teacher at Giong Rieng Ethnic Boarding School - Giong Rieng Secondary School (Giong Rieng commune) - shared: "Early access to AI courses is important for the development of teachers' digital capacity and teaching quality.
Teachers will have the opportunity to learn and apply technology in the classroom to have interesting and lively lectures and tests suitable for each student. Thanks to that, we can easily access new software and applications, contributing to improving the quality of individual teaching."
For Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam - a teacher at Ba Hon Secondary and High School (Kien Luong), the biggest change is not only the skill of using tools, but also the mindset. After the course, he has a 'compass' to orient himself in the digital world. He is more confident in accepting technology, and at the same time, more alert and responsible.
"I realized that my mission is not only to teach students how to use AI, but more importantly, to understand and criticize AI. The world that students are about to enter will be completely reshaped by AI. Teachers who understand AI will be the ones to equip students not only with the knowledge to use it, but also with the mindset to create and live with AI safely and ethically," said Mr. Nam.
According to Mr. Nguyen Gia Dang, AI will soon be included in the curriculum as an official subject after Resolution 71 is issued.
"Following the General Secretary's direction on applying AI in the classroom, the Department of Education and Training is preparing to put AI into the curriculum, so teachers must take the lead now," Mr. Dang added.
