The Agricultural General Hospital has just announced the spectacular journey of fighting against the current to save the life of a woman (30 years old, in Thanh Tri) who was struck by lightning.

Early in the morning of June 5, the Agricultural General Hospital received an emergency case, deep coma, cardiopulmonary arrest due to lightning strike while working in the field.

The patient's critical condition posed a great challenge to the medical team at the Agricultural General Hospital. Immediately after being admitted, the patient received cardiopulmonary resuscitation and was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for intensive treatment.

There were times when doctors predicted the patient's health condition was very critical, hoping for a miracle.

Thanks to the dedication, professionalism and high sense of responsibility of the medical team, after many days of urgent and non-stop treatment, the patient's condition gradually changed positively. Every small sign of recovery brought great hope to the family and the treatment team.

After 4 days and nights of persistent fighting, the miracle happened, the patient gradually regained consciousness, and his body functions gradually returned to normal. Joy broke out among the patient's family and the medical team.

Previously, Associate Professor Ha Huu Tung, Director of the Agricultural General Hospital (Hanoi) said that immediately upon admission, the hospital mobilized the use of all the most modern equipment such as ventilators, blood filters, and hypothermia to provide emergency care to the patient. Doctors applied hypothermia techniques to protect and improve central nervous system function in patients after circulatory arrest.

According to Mr. Tung, this is a case where the family gave first aid very well. The patient stopped circulating immediately after being struck by lightning, but the family still actively performed chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, giving the patient a chance to be saved. If first aid was wrong, the patient stopped circulating for too long, the doctor would not be able to save the patient.

Every year, Vietnam records hundreds of cases of lightning strikes and casualties. However, many people are still not fully aware of the dangers of lightning and how to prevent them.

According to medical experts, when encountering a person struck by lightning, if the victim is unconscious, it is necessary to check whether he is still breathing or not. If he stops breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation must be performed immediately.

Step 1: Lay the victim on his back, with his neck extended as far as possible, loosen his clothes, belt, and tie.

Step 2: Perform external chest compressions by placing both hands in the middle of the chest and pressing 3-5cm deep at a frequency of about 100 times/minute and performing 30 compressions.

Step 3: Use your hand to cover the victim's nose, cover the victim's mouth with your mouth and blow a long breath then release to let the victim breathe normally. Do this 2-3 times and then continue chest compressions. First aid is performed continuously until medical assistance arrives. For young children, first aid steps are slower.
