Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that natural disasters and floods not only cause severe damage to people's lives but also directly affect the activities of the health sector. However, the whole sector has been making efforts to maintain medical examination and treatment activities, while simultaneously implementing many synchronous measures to respond and overcome the consequences.

According to Minister Dao Hong Lan, in all situations of natural disasters, storms and floods, the care, treatment and protection of people's health must always be given top priority. Ensuring the health of patients is the number one priority, while the health sector must ensure the supply of essential medicines and timely replenishment of supplies and chemicals for prevention work.

“The health sector promptly replenished supplies and chemicals to serve the prevention work. After stabilizing medical examination and treatment for people before, during and after storms and floods, we need to strengthen monitoring, timely detection and treatment of epidemics. Along with that, we must focus on environmental treatment, ensuring food hygiene and safety and clean water sources for people,” the Minister directed.

According to the Minister, the Ministry of Health has directed its affiliated hospitals to organize on-call teams, ready to provide professional support and direct assistance to lower levels. Local health departments have strictly implemented the on-call regime, fully maintaining medical examination and treatment activities.

Quick statistics show that, up to now, many people have been injured and hospitalized due to the impact of storms and floods, many medical facilities, especially commune health stations in Nghe An and Ha Tinh have been damaged. In total, about 300 medical facilities across the country have been affected. However, medical examination and treatment work has not been interrupted, and no facility has had to stop operating.

The Minister emphasized that the direction of the Party and State leaders - from General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien - requires all levels and sectors to effectively carry out propaganda work, promote the spirit of mutual love and support, "the strong help the weak".

“This is the time we need to mobilize the cooperation of philanthropists, the business community and the whole society to share and support people to overcome difficulties and losses. Whoever has something should help, whoever has money should help, whoever has merit should help merit. A piece of food when hungry is worth a package when full,” said the Minister.
