But at least, that's something she's gotten used to over the years, since her early days with Diogo Jota.

Immediately after the sad news of Diogo Jota and his brother's accident was spread, football fans were even more heartbroken when looking back at the happiest moment of his family's life a few days before.

Under the photo of Rute Cardoso in a wedding dress posted on social media, Jota wrote: "And I am that lucky person."

That was almost the first time Jota publicly mentioned his wife. During more than 12 years of love, both of them always kept their lives private. They were the exception to the noisy private life stories in the entertainment industry. At the same time, together they built a beautiful childhood love.

Jota and Rute met in 2012 at Gondomar High School, when they were both just 15-year-old students.

The two quickly developed a student relationship, through afternoons walking home together and intimate conversations. Jota quickly found his way thanks to his natural football talent. And without hesitation, Rute chose to follow her boyfriend.

Portuguese media reported that during Jota's early days at the local club Pacos de Ferreira's training ground, the clumsy, small Jota was often teased by his friends because there was a "beautiful girl" always waiting for him outside the training ground.

Their love story continued smoothly until Jota moved to England, playing for Wolverhampton FC at the age of 21.

The couple were apart for a while as Rute was studying at IPAM, a marketing school in Porto.

She quickly finished her studies, got two degrees in marketing and psychology, and followed her boyfriend. Jota's career became more and more brilliant, while Rute continued quietly with her job at the childcare center.

Rute has never shared about her job. But it is certainly a suitable job for a girl who majored in psychology and values ​​family life.

Those who know Rute describe her as an introverted, quiet person, but devoted to her family. She stays away from social media, does not appear at lavish events, and only occasionally shares ordinary moments of her husband.

So, without getting married yet, they settled down in England. They welcomed their first child in 2021. A handsome boy named Dinis. Then another boy in 2023, and a girl in 2024.

In the eyes of their friends, Jota and Rute's small family always appears as a peaceful image: a devoted father, a capable mother, and three well-behaved children, gathered together after each match. Jota often posts pictures of his cozy family in pink tones.

After more than a decade together, on June 22, 2025, Jota and Rute officially held their wedding ceremony in Porto. No press, no fancy stage, the wedding was only attended by relatives, friends and a few close teammates.

Rute wore a simple white dress, while Jota looked radiant in an elegant gray suit. On social media, she wrote a short but meaningful caption: “Yes to forever,” with the setting being a wedding ceremony in a Catholic church.

The vow of eternal love, but turned out to be a farewell of fate.

On July 3, 2025, Jota and his brother died in a car accident while traveling on the A-52 highway in Spain.

What happened next made the whole world sob, whether they were Liverpool fans, Man United fans, or even those who didn't care about football.

The outpouring of grief intensified when the press revealed a photo of Rute standing unsteadily after leaving the morgue. His funeral will be held later tonight, and the entire football world wants to send their condolences to Rute and her family.

The photos of Jota and Rute's happy family of five were shared again, breaking the hearts of Liverpool fans. Many fans proposed humane solutions. These included continuing to pay Jota's salary, providing emotional support, and being ready to welcome his children into the club's academy in the future.
