According to bulletin No. 081025HV/DBQG_DBTV dated October 8, 2025 of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on the 5-day hydrological forecast, the flow to Son La Lake shows the maximum flow of 4,000 m3/s, the average flow is 3,100 m3/s.

At 7:00 a.m. on October 9, the flow to Son La Lake was 3,958 m3/s; the lake water level was at 216.25 m; the machine flow was 2,091 m3/s. The flow to the lake was higher than the machine flow, Son La Hydropower Company reported and proposed to open 1 bottom spillway gate of Son La Hydropower Lake at 10:00 a.m. on October 9, with a total flow through the dam of 4,439 m3/s; of which, the flow through the generators was 2,600 m3/s, the flow through the spillway was 1,839 m3/s.

Before the bottom discharge, Son La Hydropower Company issued Official Dispatch No. 1822/TĐSL-KTAT to the Civil Defense Command of Son La, Phu Tho provinces and Hoa Binh Hydropower Company. In addition, the Disaster Prevention and Control Committee, Civil Defense Command of Son La province urgently informed the localities, units and people in the downstream area of ​​Son La Hydropower Dam to proactively prevent accidents or damages that may occur.

To proactively respond, ensure safety, and avoid damage to people, property, crops, and livestock, people should not fish, collect firewood, graze livestock and poultry, or use vehicles or other activities in riverbed areas during bottom discharge and spillway discharge.
