Students of Quang Kim Primary School (Bat Xat, Lao Cai ) in the area were submerged in floodwaters 1-2m deep. Nearly 100 students had their textbooks damaged or lost. In order for students to return to school on September 16, the school asked for help from many places to get books for students. A representative of the Vietnam Education Publishing House said that preliminary statistics show that 25 provinces in the Northern region were affected by storm No. 3. About 190 titles of books for students from grades 1 to 12 need to be supplemented to localities (not including optional subject books for high school).

Following the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training , Vietnam Education Publishing House is focusing all its efforts on printing an additional 10 million textbooks.

With the number of books currently in stock, the unit can supply 18 million textbooks. However, it will take 1-2 weeks to have the exact number of local needs for additional textbooks. At that time, if there is still a shortage, more will be printed.

The Vietnam Education Publishing House said the average printing cost for 10 million copies is estimated to be under 30 billion VND. All additional textbooks printed for students affected by storms and floods will be deployed in a spirit of service.

Specifically, the number of textbooks printed by this publisher to supply flood-affected areas will have a 10% reduction in cover price (equivalent to about 50% of the publishing cost). In addition, the unit will spend a sum of money to donate some textbooks to students in heavily damaged areas.

As of September 18, Vietnam Education Publishing House has donated 2,200 sets of textbooks to the most severely damaged provinces: Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen... The value of the donated books is 550 million VND.

Previously, Vietnam Education Publishing House donated 620 million VND to people affected by storms and floods through the Vietnam Education Trade Union.

Hundreds of students at Quang Kim Primary School, Bat Xat, Lao Cai lost their books because they were unable to escape the flood in time. On the first days back to school, many backpacks were light because they lacked books.
