On the evening of October 21, many wards in Da Nang city such as Hai Chau, Hoa Cuong, An Khe, and Hoa Khanh announced that preschool children, primary and secondary school students will be off from October 22 until further notice.
This is to ensure the safety of students in the face of the forecast of complicated developments of storm Fengshen (storm No. 12) and prolonged heavy rain.

Many localities have let students stay home from school to avoid storm Fengshen (Photo: Hoai Son).
Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang issued an official dispatch requesting the chairmen of the People's Committees of communes and wards and heads of schools to decide whether students should take time off from school depending on the actual situation, especially in mountainous and low-lying areas at risk of landslides or floods.
The Department of Education and Training also requested units to promptly report on the storm situation for the Department to monitor and direct. Universities, vocational training institutions, and private schools are assigned to decide on their own student schedules. In case students cannot attend class, units will switch to online teaching.
Schools are also required to brace facilities, reinforce degraded structures, check electrical systems, roofs, fences, and move assets and important documents to a safe place.
Educational institutions must be on duty 24/7 during the storm and promptly report incidents to the competent authorities. After the storm has passed, schools must be quickly cleaned and sanitized to soon resume normal teaching and learning.
