Many provinces and cities in the Central region proactively respond to storm No. 12

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, due to the impact of storm No. 12, Da Nang City has a level of flooding equivalent to that of 2022, with more than 20 communes and wards severely flooded. From the afternoon of October 22 to 27, Da Nang is likely to have widespread heavy rain that will last for many days.

27 communes and wards are at risk of serious flooding such as: Nam Phuoc, Xuan Phu, Duy Nghia, Thang An, Dien Ban, Hoi An Tay, Hoi An Dong, An Thang, Dien Ban Tay, Dien Ban Bac, Hoa Tien, Dai Loc, Vu Gia, Thu Bon, Ngu Hanh Son, Cam Le, Hoa Cuong, Hoa Tien, Nong Son, Que Phuoc, Dong Giang, Chien Dan, Quang Phu, Tam Xuan, Huong Tra, Tam Ky, Ban Thach.

31 communes and wards are at risk of flash floods and landslides such as: Hai Van, Ben Giang, Kham Duc, Phuoc Nang, Phuoc Chanh, Phuoc Hiep, Phuoc Thanh, Thu Bon, Duy Xuyen, Que Son Trung, Que Phuoc, Nong Son, Hiep Duc, Viet An, Son Cam Ha, Lanh Ngoc, Dong Duong, Tay Ho, Tien Phuoc, Thanh Binh, Tra My, Tra Lien, Phu Ninh, Duc Phu, Nui Thanh, Tam My, Tra Giap, Nam Tra My, Tra My, Tra Tap, Tra Leng.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that immediately after receiving timely and accurate forecasts about storm No. 12, the city proactively activated all natural disaster prevention and control plans from the afternoon of October 20.

According to Mr. Tran Nam Hung, although the storm is not forecast to be too strong when it hits the shore, the risk of heavy rain and flooding in urban areas, along with landslides in mountainous areas, is very high. The city has established 3 forward command committees in key areas: the western mountainous area, the southern area and the city center, directly commanded by the Vice Chairmen of the Da Nang People's Committee.

The work of regulating 121 reservoirs has been completed, ensuring low water levels according to the scenario to proactively cut floods when necessary. Da Nang also allowed all students to stay home from school to ensure safety.

About 50 small boats, hundreds of rescue vehicles and equipment were mobilized; more than 1,000 life jackets were distributed to deeply flooded areas.

Mr. Tran Nam Hung emphasized that the rescue force will be on standby and arrive as soon as possible upon receiving information that people need assistance. People are advised to stock up on food for at least 3 days, elevate their belongings and proactively move to a safe place before 5 p.m. on October 22. The city will not accept spontaneous relief goods to ensure centralized coordination and unified command.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, Tran Nam Hung, affirmed that, up to now, Da Nang has been fully prepared to respond to storm No. 12, especially situations of heavy rain, floods and landslides. Due to the influence of the cold air strengthening, combined with disturbances in the upper East wind zone, in Da Nang City, there is a possibility of heavy rain, very heavy rain and thunderstorms from the night of October 22 to 27. During the thunderstorms, there is a possibility of whirlwinds, lightning and strong gusts of wind.

Rainfall in the past 24 hours, Da Nang City has scattered showers (Hai Van ward has heavy rain with rainfall of 63mm) and thunderstorms in some places. Water levels on rivers are all below and approximately at alert level 1.

The People's Committee of Da Nang City has issued many dispatches, directives, and held online meetings with localities, requiring them to be on duty seriously and have disaster prevention plans ready. Localities continue to closely monitor the developments of floods and storms, proactively evacuate people in key areas at risk of being affected by storms, floods, and flash floods before 5:00 p.m. on October 22. Currently, forces continue to closely monitor the developments of storms and heavy rains to promptly deploy responses, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.

On October 22, the Office of the People's Committee of Da Nang City announced that currently on the internet, a fake document of the People's Committee of Da Nang City is being circulated about the issuance of a policy directing to stop working and market operations from the afternoon of October 22 due to storm No. 12.

This is false information, causing public confusion, affecting the direction and management of storm prevention No. 12 of the Da Nang City government.
