After 16 years of rowing, including two times reaching the standard but missing the Olympic tournament, mother of one Pham Thi Hue still persistently pursued her passion. At the age of 34, the female rower from Quang Binh finally had the joy and fulfilled her dream when she won a ticket to the Paris Olympics. Nearly a week after arriving in France with expert Donnelly Joseph Ignatius, every day Pham Thi Hue took the bus for an hour to the training location to have the best preparation. She focused her determination on today's qualifying round for the women's single sculls heavyweight, facing strong opponents from Germany, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, and Singapore.

Also today, mother of two Ha Thi Linh entered the 60 kg boxing competition. At the age of 31, the boxer from Lao Cai still maintains a strong physical foundation. The coaches could not help but admire Linh when witnessing her overcome strong and young opponents with high competition intensity (1 match per day for 5 days) to win a ticket to the Paris Olympics. Her tenacious fighting spirit and refusal to give up helped Ha Thi Linh have sharp counterattacks to win. She is expected to bring out her full potential to conquer each opponent.

Another female boxer, Vo Thi Kim Anh, also competed in the 54 kg category. To develop her career to the top, Kim Anh left her hometown of An Giang to Hanoi for a long-term training. The 27-year-old boxer's sacrifices and hardships were rewarded with a ticket to Paris. In her first time participating in the Olympics, Kim Anh confidently said she would compete fairly with her opponent.

Also competing today at the Paris Olympics are other “female generals” such as Hoang Thi Tinh in judo (48 kg weight class), Trinh Thu Vinh in shooting (women’s 10 m air pistol). Both had an impressive journey to conquer the Olympic ticket, then were given the opportunity to train and compete internationally to hone their skills, ready to conquer the Olympics.

The “weaker sex” is shouldering a great responsibility with Vietnamese sports in the biggest arena on the planet. It would be wonderful if the ladies shine, bringing home the first medal for Vietnamese sports at the Paris Olympics.
