Important notes when applying for university admission

At the 2025 Wish Selection Festival organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper and other coordinating units on July 19 in Hanoi, a student wondered: This year, economic schools stopped determining admission quotas according to each method and converted them to a single admission score. How should I set my admission wishes?

Responding to students, MSc. Pham Thanh Ha - Deputy Head of the Training Management Department, Foreign Trade University - said that this year all universities do not determine quotas according to each method or admission combination, but only determine quotas according to each major/training program.

When considering admission, the Ministry of Education and Training 's admission system will automatically select the highest score among the methods/combinations that the candidate has, ensuring the highest benefits for the candidate.

Therefore, it is very important to have a strategy for university admission.

When placing your application on the ministry's general admission system, there are three basic principles to keep in mind.

Firstly, when placing your wishes on the ministry's system, you need to divide them into three different groups: Safe wish group (candidates can place three wishes for majors with previous year's benchmark scores that may be lower than their current score); target wish group, within their ability; dream wish group (place them in majors/schools with benchmark scores that are slightly higher than their ability).

Second, when placing your wishes on the ministry's general admission system, do not choose too few wishes, because the ministry's system does not limit the number of admission wishes. It is necessary to research how many wishes are appropriate.

"Put your preferences in order of preference, with your most favorite preference first. The ministry's system will run from top to bottom, and candidates who are admitted to a preference will stay at that preference," Ms. Ha emphasized.

Third , you should not focus your wishes on only one school. If you like economics and business, you can choose to apply to top, middle and lower schools to increase your chances of being admitted to your favorite major.

From July 16 to 5:00 p.m. on July 28, candidates can register, adjust, and add their admission wishes an unlimited number of times. Admission wishes are ranked from 1 to the end (wish 1 is the highest wish).

All admission requests of candidates to the university will be processed on the system and each candidate will only be admitted to the highest request among the registered requests when ensuring the admission conditions.

There are two things candidates must do, otherwise they will not be considered for admission or will be removed from the admission list: register their admission wishes and pay the fees for the registered wishes.
