Farmers actively build new rural areas

With the motto “people know, people discuss, people do, people check, people supervise, people benefit”, the role of the people is maximized in all activities. People contribute labor, money, donate land to build roads, build public works and are also the force to develop production, build a rich and beautiful homeland.

When people are united and join forces

Although over 70 years old, Mrs. Truong My Hanh (residing in Hamlet 3, Phuoc An Commune) is still very active in participating in activities of planting and taking care of trees and ornamental flowers on model roads in the hamlet. Her family consists of only 2 mothers and children, a single-parent household with difficulties in the locality, but she is still very happy to participate in common activities of the community.

Ms. Hanh shared: “Before, when things were difficult, I only worried about going to work to earn money to raise my children; now that I am of retirement age, my children have finished school, and the family economy is more stable, I have time to do the things I like. I participate in planting and taking care of trees and ornamental flowers on roads that do not pass through my house because I love flowers and want the roads in the residential area to be beautiful.”

Although she is at retirement age, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mo (residing in Thong Nhat commune) is still actively participating in the Association of the Elderly and the Women's Union in the locality. She is also a prestigious party member in the locality in mobilizing and propagating people to actively participate in building the new rural area. Sharing the secret to doing good mass mobilization work, Ms. Mo said: "As a party member, I always actively take the lead, set an example in all local movements, using reality to persuade people to participate wholeheartedly."

Sharing the same sentiment, although nearly 70 years old, Ms. Ngo Thi Giup, Head of Residential Area 16, Hamlet 4 (Phu Hoa Commune), still actively participates in local movements. She is not only a good farmer, but also a prestigious person in the ethnic minority community, good at local mass mobilization work.

Ms. Giup said that in building the new rural areas, the most difficult thing is to mobilize and propagate people to participate. Big things like mobilizing people to donate land and contribute money to build roads are difficult; small things like working together to maintain public hygiene, planting flowers, keeping model roads green, clean and beautiful are even more difficult. Because these things cannot be maintained by just a few people, but need the whole community to join hands.

According to Ms. Giup: “Mobilizing ethnic minorities is not a one-day or two-day story or just when necessary, holding meetings with people to propagate is enough. This is a story that is closely connected with the daily life of the people; must take the lead in learning from experience, set an example in good production and be ready to introduce and share experiences so that people can progress together. They must trust and love me to actively participate. Thanks to that, I have mobilized many people to be willing to donate land to build new rural roads.”

The New Rural Construction Movement in the province also promotes the role of young people in rural areas.

After getting married, Ms. Cat Thi Thien Ly moved to Dak Lua commune to live. She joined the Farmers' Association and the Red Cross in the locality. As a party member, Ms. Ly is always active in doing common community work such as: taking the lead in contributing money to build roads; implementing waste classification at source; planting and caring for flowers and ornamental plants on local model roads.

Ms. Ly said: “You have to be proactive and set an example so that people and neighbors around you will trust and follow. Thanks to the movements of cleaning up, building model residential areas and model roads, households in the neighborhood are more connected to each other; those who contribute labor, those who cannot participate contribute money and materials so that the model roads can be extended.”

In the construction of new rural areas, localities in Dong Nai province have focused on developing production, constantly increasing income for rural people. Thanks to that, rural people's income has increased rapidly every year. Up to now, the average income per capita in many advanced new rural communes and model new rural communes in the province has reached more than 90 million VND/person/year, even some communes have reached more than 100 million VND/person/year.

Promoting valuable lessons on "skillful mass mobilization"

Identifying propaganda work as one of the first tasks of all aspects of work, throughout the journey of building new rural areas, localities in the province always pay attention to propaganda work, mobilizing people with many vivid and practical forms. In recent years, a series of competitions have been organized to attract a large number of cadres and people to participate, such as: Online contest to learn about knowledge of building new rural areas; Model residential area contest; model roads...

Up to now, the whole province has built 100 model residential areas associated with the construction of model roads, model gardens for safe production, model cultural houses... Thanks to that, model residential areas have been invested synchronously in traffic routes, lighting systems, security cameras; planted with trees, flowers, spacious, bright, green, clean and beautiful in every alley. People in model residential areas are pioneers in implementing difficult criteria such as: classifying waste at source; implementing the Green House model to collect recycled waste, converting to safe agricultural production...

Secretary of the Xuan Loc Commune Party Committee Nguyen Thi Cat Tien commented that one of the valuable lessons of the locality in building the new rural area is that the political system has been innovated and the quality of its operations has been improved; awareness of the people's role as masters has been raised. This is clearly demonstrated in the good mobilization of social capital from the community in building and developing the new rural area. People also promote their role as the main subject in contributing to changing the overall appearance of the countryside, ensuring the green - clean - beautiful - aesthetic environment.

According to the report of the Provincial Farmers' Association, implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the 2021-2025 period, farmers' associations at all levels in the province mobilized nearly 9.9 billion VND, more than 3,600 working days, over 11,400 m2 of land for rural roads, nearly 4,200 m3 of soil and rock to repair and renew 59km of rural roads, 2km of intra-field canals; installed 14km of electric lighting lines; repaired and upgraded 11 bridges and culverts.
