Aquaculture in a safe direction during the rainy and stormy season

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Thanh Hoa province currently has 19,200 hectares of commercial aquaculture, contributing to creating jobs and increasing income for thousands of workers in rural areas. However, most of the development models are small-scale in river areas, so ensuring the safety of the area and the animals raised during the rainy and stormy season is extremely necessary.

Aquaculture in a safe direction during the rainy and stormy season

Quang Chinh Aquaculture and Service Cooperative, Quang Chinh Commune guides on reducing density and ensuring safety during the rainy and stormy season.

Quang Chinh Aquaculture and Service Cooperative, Quang Chinh Commune is managing and providing technical support for about 60 hectares of aquaculture of local people. In particular, the main aquaculture products are black tiger shrimp, crabs... Director of the Cooperative Pham Ba Thao said: To support members in developing safe and effective aquaculture, at the beginning of each farming season, we organize training courses on aquaculture techniques for local people. In addition, during the summer-autumn farming season, which is also the rainy and stormy season, the Cooperative has proactively guided local people to follow the correct seasonal schedule and have a plan to release seeds suitable for each farming product; focused on investing in building and raising the banks of ponds and lagoons to limit losses when heavy rains occur; regularly checking the drainage system, preparing enough fuel to operate the drainage pump when necessary...

In the aquaculture area of Quang Chinh commune, there are more than 50 households developing aquaculture on about 176 hectares. Although it is an aquaculture development planning area, the investment in infrastructure and aquaculture areas is not synchronous. Especially the area of converting low-lying fields and riverside areas in the rainy and stormy season still has many potential risks and insecurity. Therefore, Quang Chinh Aquaculture and Service Cooperative has advised the Commune People's Committee to guide and support farming households to pay attention to implementing solutions to ensure the safety of ponds, lagoons, greenhouses and net houses for aquaculture. Prepare production materials and medicine to prevent diseases on aquaculture objects in the rainy and stormy season.

Mr. Truong Sy Che's family in village 5, Tho Ngoc commune develops freshwater aquaculture with farmed species such as grass carp, bighead carp, common carp, tilapia... With nearly 20 years of farming experience, during the rainy and stormy season, the family prepares the necessary materials to ensure the safety of the farming area. Mr. Che said: "After a period of farming, the family has accumulated experience and farming techniques, especially during the rainy and stormy season. During this season, when the temperature changes, poor water quality and high farming density can put freshwater fish at risk of contracting some diseases caused by bacteria, parasites and viruses. Therefore, right from the beginning of the season, my family schedules to release in advance and harvest early the areas that meet the standards to avoid storms and reduce the farming density. With the remaining area, the family regularly checks the water source and food. At the same time, proactively change the water, drain the water and release medicine to prevent diseases during the rainy season."

On an area of 5 sao of ponds with solid, synchronous infrastructure and good farming techniques, each year Mr. Truong Sy Che's family harvests about 1.5 tons of fish, with a revenue of more than 200 million VND and a profit of nearly 100 million VND.

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydrometeorology, this year's rainy and stormy season is complicated, Thanh Hoa province may be directly affected by many rains, storms, tropical depressions interspersed with prolonged heat waves. Therefore, to ensure the safety of aquaculture areas during the rainy and stormy season, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with functional agencies and local authorities to strengthen propaganda to raise awareness for the community in general, and aquaculture farmers in particular, about ensuring safety for people and aquaculture ponds and lagoons. Directing specialized agencies to coordinate with the economic departments of communes to organize inspections of drainage systems, instructing people on measures to protect aquaculture ponds and lagoons when there is heavy rain and wind. At the same time, paying attention to investing in renovating and upgrading irrigation systems, dredging canals to ensure quick and timely drainage. Localities have strengthened guidance for people on measures to reinforce and protect banks, culverts, and aeration fans; Instruct aquaculture farmers to harvest before the rainy and stormy season if shrimp and fish reach commercial size to limit loss and economic damage when storms and floods occur; regularly check and apply disease prevention measures for aquaculture when the weather changes.
