Journey of overcoming difficulties
More than a decade ago, on the fertile red basalt land of the Central Highlands, a great idea was nurtured by the Party, the State and the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV): Turning the potential of bauxite ore into reality, creating an aluminum industry and moving towards aluminum smelting right in the homeland of Dak Nong (old), now Lam Dong province.
The Nhan Co Alumina Plant Project - one of the two pilot projects of the Vietnam coal and mineral industry is the crystallization of that vision. The project was quickly implemented with the high determination of the Government and the consensus and support of the majority of the people. On October 1, 2015, Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV (DNA) was officially established, with the mission of managing and operating the Nhan Co Alumina Plant, exploiting and processing bauxite ore, contributing to the State budget, creating jobs and promoting socio -economic development for the locality.
Right from the beginning, DNA had to face enormous pressure on progress, technology and site clearance. However, no matter how difficult it was, it could not stop the steps of the staff and engineers who stayed at the construction site to check the transformer foundation; the meetings with the people went hand in hand with the equipment installation. With responsibility, pressure on progress and expectations from TKV, the government and the people, the Company has persevered to overcome. On November 12, 2016, the first ton of hydrate was born - a historical milestone filled with sweat, tears and bursting happiness.
The past 10 years have been a journey of overcoming difficulties to affirm values. The next 10 years will be a journey of conquering new heights, contributing to realizing the aspiration of industrialization of the country right from the red basalt soil of the Central Highlands.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Phong - Director of Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV
Mr. Nguyen Ba Phong - Director of Dak Nong Aluminum Company - TKV said that the Nhan Co Aluminum Factory project was the most complex project in the Central Highlands at that time. Every item required close supervision, ensuring safety and progress. The biggest difficulty was site clearance when illegal construction occurred to wait for compensation. There were even times when people gathered to block vehicles transporting ore. However, thanks to the close coordination between the Company and authorities at all levels, each bottleneck was gradually resolved.
The factory was put into trial operation amid numerous technical problems: torn conveyor belts, clogged boilers, total power outages, unstable alumina products... The staff and workers were inexperienced and had to learn while working, troubleshoot, and perfect the process. However, thanks to their determination, the company quickly increased its capacity from 60% to 100% of the design in just a few months.
From 2017 to now, DNA continues to face many challenges: unstable input ore sources due to land clearance problems; recurring equipment failures, especially during the rainy season in the Central Highlands. Environmental management is under great pressure as regulations become increasingly strict. In addition, the issue of digital management is still limited, operational data is mainly recorded manually, making analysis and forecasting difficult. However, with the spirit of solidarity and creativity, DNA has gradually mastered technology, stabilized production and overcome the most severe challenges.

The great value of the aluminum industry
After 10 years, the Company has not only affirmed its position as a key industrial enterprise of the Central Highlands but also demonstrated the strategic importance of the aluminum industry to the country's economy.
In 2018, after just over 1 year of commercial operation, Nhan Co Alumina Factory reached its design capacity. By 2022, the factory's output reached over 740,000 tons, exceeding 113.8% of its capacity. Raw material consumption indicators (coal, lime, caustic soda, etc.) were all lower than the design, demonstrating increasingly optimal operating capacity. The company also proactively improved its technological process, built an optimal operating model in all capacity ranges, thereby reducing labor, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency.

Over the past 10 years, DNA has always exceeded the production and business plans assigned by TKV. Annual revenue has grown steadily, profits have been guaranteed, and state budget contributions have increased, making an important contribution to the province's revenue. The company has also created stable jobs for thousands of direct and indirect workers, contributing to changing the face of local life.
DNA has been implementing environmental restoration work in a “rolling” manner: mining to where, reclaiming land, planting trees there. Many mining areas have become green again after reclamation, becoming clear evidence of the connection between industrial development and environmental protection. At the same time, the Company has invested in automatic monitoring systems, improved the treatment process of red mud, solid waste, wastewater... to ensure compliance with increasingly strict legal regulations.
DNA always identifies people as the key factor. The company focuses on training young human resources, gradually building a team of skilled engineers and workers, capable of mastering complex technology. Corporate culture is cultivated through the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and creativity, becoming a solid foundation for long-term development.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Phong affirmed: DNA together with Tan Rai Aluminum project has demonstrated the feasibility of the development strategy of Vietnam's aluminum industry. Nhan Co aluminum products not only serve export, bring foreign currency but also are an important stepping stone towards domestic aluminum smelting - a strategic direction to reduce import dependence and increase resource value.
Looking back over the past 10 years, DNA has affirmed its value not only through impressive numbers but also through its enduring mark. From a fertile but difficult land, DNA has built a modern industry, created jobs, promoted development, and contributed to ensuring national energy and resource security. DNA has laid the foundation for the goal of becoming Lam Dong 's national aluminum industrial center.
The future still has many challenges: limited ore sources, market fluctuations, increasing environmental requirements and digital transformation. However, with accumulated experience, the consensus of the staff, workers and employees, and the attention of TKV and the government, DNA can absolutely continue to develop strongly, becoming the "leading bird" of the Vietnamese aluminum industry.
