As one of the last localities in Ha Tinh where floodwaters have just receded, Hong Lam oasis in Hong Lam village (Nghi Xuan commune) is still struggling to overcome the consequences of the recent storm and flood. The isolated terrain and difficult traffic have made the recovery work very difficult.

As of the morning of October 7, in Hong Lam village, mud still covered many roads, traces of storm No. 10 and the recent flood were clearly visible on house walls, electric poles and gardens.

Dozens of hectares of sedge, peanuts and corn, which are the main source of income for local people, have been washed away or completely rotted. Many riverside farming areas are now covered with thick mud, and it will take a long time for production to recover.

Located in the middle of the river, the whole Hong Lam village has 140 households. Due to the impact of storms and floods, the whole village has nearly 30 households that suffered heavy damage, more than 60 houses and barns had their roofs blown off, collapsed... over 70%

Immediately after the water receded, taking advantage of the sunny weather, villagers busily cleaned up, washed their belongings, rebuilt their damaged roofs, and tried to stabilize their lives after many days of deep flooding.

Ms. Ngo Thi Nguyet (Hong Lam village, Nghi Xuan commune) said: “Before the storm and flood happened, we were evacuated by the local authorities. After the water receded, we returned home safely and immediately started cleaning our houses and barns with the spirit of "where the water recedes, we clean up there".

The terrain surrounded by rivers makes Hong Lam village an isolated "oasis" every time the flood rises. Access to support people is very difficult, the locality is completely isolated for many days. Up to now, although the water has receded, the whole commune still has no electricity because the 35kV electric pole across the river has broken down, making the recovery work difficult. Hong Lam village is one of the localities heavily affected by storm No. 10 and floods in the commune. In recent days, along with the efforts of the local government and forces, many individuals and charitable organizations inside and outside the locality have actively donated and provided material and spiritual support to the people. We are implementing a plan to mobilize local forces and officials to support cleaning, general cleaning, and disinfection spraying to limit the risk of disease outbreaks after the flood. In particular, although the isolated terrain causes many difficulties for the recovery work, the locality is urgently coordinating with Ha Tinh and Nghe An electricity to provide electricity and clean water as soon as possible so that people can gradually restore their lives and stabilize their lives and production.
