Build a bridge
Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nui Thanh District, Pham Van Quyen, began the story about his journey as a "bridge" between philanthropists and victims of Agent Orange with a kind, humble and gentle demeanor in each sentence.
Having worked as Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district, he understands that this land still has many difficult circumstances, so when he retires, he still wants to contribute to society.
“In January 2015, when I retired, Ms. Ho Thi Thanh Lam - President of the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities, Children's Rights and Poor Patients of Quang Nam Province asked me to participate in the association's work, but because of my old age, I could not arrange it.
So when the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims of Quang Nam Province asked me to join, I joined because it was more convenient. And I had faith that my kind friends and acquaintances from all over the world would help me, so I joined the association's work," said Mr. Pham Van Quyen.
After taking on the new job, Mr. Quyen traveled alone from North to South to find support. He quietly went to Hanoi, Da Nang, Tay Nguyen, Long An , Can Tho... "knocking on the doors" of close friends and fellow countrymen to ask for help.
For each trip to call for support, Mr. Quyen has a specific program and goals to convince benefactors to trust him and give him financial support.
At the same time, he knew that the philanthropists were successful people with a lot of work and little free time, so when he got an appointment, he set off immediately.
Mr. Quyen said: "Because of my old age, long trips make me tired, but in return, having the resources to support Agent Orange victims in my hometown makes me happy and full of energy."
After each campaign, Mr. Quyen always deployed support to the right people, in the right cases as committed to the benefactors. This reputation and transparency helped Mr. Pham Van Quyen become a trusted "address" in sending love.
In particular, many philanthropists such as Mr. Le Hoai Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, Tran Quoc Hung - Vice President of the Nui Thanh Association in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern provinces and cities, in addition to their contributions, have called on more people to support the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nui Thanh District.
“I am very happy that many friends, fellow countrymen and benefactors have registered to support me every year and told me to remind them if they forget. In addition, they also support the costs of my campaign trips, which makes it even more convenient.

Thanks to the support sources, every year the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nui Thanh district has a fund of 600 - 800 million VND to help Agent Orange victims" - Mr. Quyen shared.
Share love
From the connection of Mr. Pham Van Quyen, every year the Nui Thanh Fellow Countrymen Association in Ho Chi Minh City always organizes charity programs in their hometown for Agent Orange victims and the poor.
In June, the Association and some benefactors donated 5 solidarity houses worth 260 million VND; donated 50 million VND to the Humanitarian Fund and Support for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims; donated 60 million VND to support children of Agent Orange victims, along with 110 scholarships worth 201 million VND.
“Not only did we receive scholarships, we also received financial support for our study and living expenses. We promise to study hard so that we can help our mother and other people in difficult circumstances in the future,” said student Vo Ngoc Lan Anh (in Tam Thanh commune).
Similarly, receiving the amount of 40 million VND from the Nui Thanh Association in Ho Chi Minh City, Mrs. Bui Thi Tinh (Tam Hoa commune) was very emotional. This amount of money was enough to help her family repair the house with a leaky roof.
“I am very grateful to the Association of Fellow Countrymen in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern Provinces, and the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nui Thanh District for helping my family repair the house. I hope that many people will receive help like me,” said Ms. Tinh.
“I am 70 years old now so my mobility is more limited than before, so sometimes I have to mobilize through phone calls. I thought it would be difficult, but the good hearts always turn to the homeland, so the resources to support the victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Nui Thanh are still maintained. That is the happiness of my old age!” - Mr. Pham Van Quyen confided.
