On October 9, the Ukrainian President is in Croatia to attend the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit and plans to visit France and Germany to seek support, in the context that the US still does not allow Kiev to use long-range weapons to attack deep into Russia.
Speaking at the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit in Dubrovni, Croatia, President Zelensky said on October 9: "In October, November and December, we have the opportunity to move towards lasting peace and stability."
Reuters news agency quoted the leader as saying that the situation on the front created an opportunity to choose "decisive action to end the war by 2025 at the latest".
At the Conference, President Zelensky also said that despite many political tensions, the European Union (EU) must "unite the entire continent, all democratic countries of Europe including the countries of Southeast Europe".
According to plan, the Ukrainian leader will go to Paris to meet his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on October 10 to strengthen support from the West.
Mr Zelensky was also scheduled to visit Italy and Germany this week. He had previously said he would present his “victory plan” to allies at a meeting in Germany on 12 October, but the event has been cancelled.
French officials say they have not yet learned the details of the “victory plan,” but a French diplomatic source hopes to learn more soon.
Meanwhile, the Élysée Palace issued a statement saying that the meeting between the two leaders would be “an opportunity to reaffirm France’s determination to continue its strong support for Ukraine and its people in the long term, together with all its partners.”
President Macron has tried to portray Paris as fully backing Kiev in its conflict with Moscow, despite domestic political difficulties that have raised doubts about the level of support France can provide to Ukraine in the coming months.
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, a senior Pentagon official confirmed on October 9 that there is currently no change in Washington's policy of not allowing Ukraine to conduct long-range attacks on Russian territory using weapons provided by the US.
At the press conference, the Pentagon official stated: "We have not changed our position on this issue," and the US government considered before making such a decision.
