On the morning of September 26, at Military Hospital 175 (HCMC), the HCMC Department of Health held a conference to announce the results of implementing electronic medical records at hospitals and standardizing the data warehouse of the HCMC health sector.
This is an important milestone in the digital transformation journey of the healthcare sector, contributing to modernizing management, reducing administrative procedures and improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for people.
153/164 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City have implemented electronic medical records, reaching 93%.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health - said that Ho Chi Minh City, with its large number of hospitals and medical facilities, the synchronous implementation of electronic medical records and ensuring progress at all hospitals and medical facilities according to the Prime Minister 's direction is a huge challenge for the entire Ho Chi Minh City health system.
Through many training programs, instructions and technical support, up to now, 153 out of 164 hospitals have implemented electronic medical records, reaching a rate of more than 93% of the entire system. Of which, the city's public hospital sector has reached a rate of 100%, while the sectoral and ministerial hospitals have achieved an almost absolute rate.
Notably, in the non-public sector, despite the large number of facilities and their diverse sizes, 80/90 hospitals have implemented the program, accounting for more than 89%.
In terms of application scope, the rate of hospitals implementing electronic medical records across the hospital is high, of which 64% of public hospitals and 65% of private hospitals have completed it at the entire hospital scale.
Regarding investment forms, Mr. Thuong said that most hospitals choose to hire information technology services to optimize costs.

Ho Chi Minh City takes the lead in concretizing Resolution 72
In his speech, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc - Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee - acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the attitude, ideology, spirit and implementation results of the Ho Chi Minh City health sector in implementing electronic medical records and standardizing data warehouses.
The "pillar" of this success, according to Mr. Loc, is the management of the Board of Directors of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health with a meticulous preparation process, overcoming many difficulties and challenges to prepare for the announcement of the results of the program to deploy electronic medical records and standardize the data warehouse.
Mr. Loc emphasized that the announcement of electronic medical records according to the roadmap will bring many practical benefits, including shortening the time for medical examination and treatment; reducing costs, paperwork, and administrative procedures; increasing transparency in management; and facilitating interaction for patients in line with the motto of taking patients as the center.
In particular, the implementation of electronic medical records associated with the integration of the health sector's shared data warehouse is considered a concrete step to implement Resolution 72. "This is proof that Ho Chi Minh City is one of the leading localities in implementing Resolution 72," said Mr. Loc.
According to Mr. Loc, with the large scale of the health care system in Ho Chi Minh City, with diverse types (164 hospitals, 38 health centers, 168 health stations and 10,627 clinics), the implementation of electronic medical records on schedule is a huge challenge for the entire health care system in Ho Chi Minh City.
"We have overcome the challenge and made it public before September 30, which is encouraging and recognizes the joint efforts of the entire city's health system," Mr. Loc emphasized.
To continue promoting the achieved results and realizing the strategic vision, the Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee directed the Ho Chi Minh City health sector to continue reviewing the shortcomings, difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing electronic medical records and standardizing data warehouses.
At the same time, expand the coverage of electronic health records, with the ultimate goal of 100% of people being managed with electronic health records, linked with social insurance data, health insurance and electronic medical records.
He suggested that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health should pay attention to, direct and resolve the difference in information technology infrastructure between hospitals, especially between upper-level health care, grassroots health care and non-public health care.
At the same time, it is necessary to supplement resources for digital transformation, pay attention to perfecting the centralized medical data warehouse, ensuring safety, security and connectivity, as well as promoting the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analysis (Big Data) in disease forecasting, scientific research and medical administration.
