Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung surveyed projects serving APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc

(PLVN) - On June 28, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung led a Central working delegation to inspect the site and work with leaders of Kien Giang province on the progress of key projects serving the APEC 2027 Summit Week.

Directly inspecting the construction site of the APEC Conference Center - the main nucleus of the series of events, the Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the construction progress, especially the embankment deployment, site leveling and mass pile installation that are taking place urgently. In addition, the APEC Avenue route, underground technical works in Duong Dong and An Thoi, the International Passenger Port, and the connecting route from the airport to the conference center were also inspected in practice.

The delegation also inspected two strategic urban areas - Bai Dat Do Mixed Urban Area and Ong Quan Mountain Eco- tourism Area.

Reporting at the meeting, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan said: Up to now, the province has established 15 surveying working groups, completed legal procedures for 8/9 urgent projects, handed over international airport infrastructure to local management; at the same time, called for investment with a list of 40 projects, with a total proposed central budget capital of more than 9,000 billion VND. Priority areas include processing industry, environmental protection and ecotourism.

Kien Giang also proposed adding two strategic coastal routes to the investment portfolio serving APEC: the coastal road in the East of Phu Quoc (44km long) and the road connecting An Thoi Port (2.7km long), with a total investment of more than VND16,700 billion.
In addition to transporting delegates and goods, these two routes facilitate connections between airports, ports, hotels and convention centers, while opening up 245 hectares of new coastal land for commercial and tourism development.

On this occasion, the province proposed to the Working Group to change the Urban Railway Line Project, Section 1 - currently on the list of urgent public investments - to the form of selecting investors in special cases to mobilize social resources more effectively.

Concluding the working session, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung acknowledged that Kien Giang province and its ministries and branches have basically synchronously deployed 15/15 tasks, of which 12 have been completed. The Deputy Prime Minister commended the efforts of the Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee, ACV (Airports Corporation of Vietnam), investors, contractors and related units in the preparation work, especially the progress of selecting investors and constructing key projects.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the speed of project implementation, and emphasized that this is only the first stage, the workload is still very large, and the implementation time is limited. Therefore, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the province and ministries and branches to report progress periodically every month and organize an interdisciplinary inspection team every 3 months to urge and promptly remove obstacles.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that the implementation process must be public and transparent, absolutely not allowing negativity, waste, or group interests to occur, and at the same time strictly implementing legal processes and procedures according to regulations. The organization of construction, contractor selection, survey, and design must be strictly controlled, aiming to start all projects before August 19, 2025.

The Deputy Prime Minister also assigned Kien Giang province to develop a detailed plan, clearly defining people, work, time, products, responsibilities and authority (“6 clear”), striving to complete the projects at least 3-6 months before APEC, and submit the master plan before July 10, 2025.

For projects that have not yet selected investors, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that procedures must be completed by July 2025, prioritizing essential projects such as water reservoirs, clean water, and wastewater treatment. Ministries and branches such as Finance, Construction, National Defense, Public Security, along with ACV, need to closely coordinate with the province to ensure synchronization, safety, progress, and investment efficiency.
