An Giang: Launching 10 projects and works to serve APEC 2027 Summit Week

Phu Quoc - with its strategic location in the center of the Asia-Pacific region, possessing a deep-water port and a modern international airport, was chosen as the venue for the APEC Summit Week 2027.

On September 24, at Phu Quoc Special Zone ( An Giang province), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung and leaders of central ministries, branches, An Giang province, relevant departments, branches, units and investors attended the groundbreaking ceremony of 10 projects and works serving the APEC 2027 Summit Week, welcoming the 1st Congress of An Giang Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized that the APEC 2027 Summit Week is an important national political event, an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its role as an active, proactive and responsible member of the Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum; opening up strategic opportunities to enhance bilateral and multilateral relations with member economies.

Phu Quoc, with its strategic location in the center of the Asia- Pacific region, possessing a deep-water port, a modern international airport and favorable natural conditions, was chosen as the venue for the event.

Preparations are divided into three phases: 2025, comprehensive launch, 2026, basic completion, and 2027, focusing on organizing the APEC Summit Week.

The Government has assigned An Giang province to deploy infrastructure related to 15 points, including 21 projects and 11 specific policies, demonstrating the maximum attention and support of the Central Government.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches, An Giang province and investors to concentrate highly, with the spirit of "what is said is done, what is committed must be done", to complete projects 3 to 6 months ahead of schedule, ensuring quality, creating a beautiful and impressive space of Vietnam and Phu Quoc in the eyes of international friends.

The implementation must be public and transparent, without allowing negativity, corruption, loss, or group interests. Central ministries and branches must strengthen inspection and supervision, proactively continue to support and accompany An Giang province to resolve arising difficulties and problems.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung noted that An Giang province regularly inspects and coordinates to resolve problems at the grassroots level, promptly completes investment procedures and strives to start construction of all remaining projects in October 2025.

The province needs to pay attention to social security work, resettlement compensation, and ensure that people in new places have jobs and a life equal to or better than their old place.

Investors, contractors and supervisory consultants must promote the highest sense of responsibility, quickly implement construction, ensure safety, quality and strive to exceed schedule.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and commended the consensus and support of the people in the affected areas for the project implementation policy and the site clearance work; called on socio-political organizations and people to continue to support, unite, and actively participate in monitoring and social criticism so that the project can be completed on schedule.

Seven projects and works started construction including: Provincial Road DT.975 (section from DT.973-Phu Quoc Airport-DT.975-DT.973), 20km long, 60m wide, investment capital of 2,500 billion VND; Cua Can Lake with a capacity of 7.5 million m3, capable of supplying 50,000 m3/day and night, investment capital of 1,026 billion VND; undergrounding technical infrastructure in Duong Dong area, investment capital of 550 billion VND; undergrounding technical infrastructure in An Thoi area, investment capital of 420 billion VND; investment in technical infrastructure, digital transformation to build a smart monitoring and operating center to comprehensively manage Phu Quoc Special Zone (including data center, monitoring center, camera system, monitoring equipment...), investment capital of 500 billion VND; Construction of embankment and leveling of the APEC Conference Center and functional works on an area of ​​57 hectares, embankment length of 2,251 meters, investment capital of 1,400 billion VND; An Thoi resettlement area with an area of ​​23.8 hectares, investment capital of 1,632 billion VND.

Three projects and works started include: Bai Bon waste treatment plant (Ham Ninh), area 15ha, capacity 250 tons/day, investment capital 382 billion VND; An Thoi domestic solid waste treatment plant, area 4.2ha, capacity 110 tons/day; Cua Can lake water plant, capacity 49,500 m3/day and night, investment capital 556 billion VND.

Mr. Bui Thanh Trung, Chairman of Sun Group Southern Region, shared that the unit and contractors are committed to mobilizing all intelligence, resources and experience, implementing projects with discipline, international standards, fast progress, and outstanding quality so that each project not only serves APEC 2027 but also brings long-term value and contribution to the community and to the sustainable development of the locality.

Along with Sun Group, other contractors have also been selected to accompany Phu Quoc in implementing projects of great significance, not only for APEC 2027, but also for the long-term socio-economic development of the Pearl Island.

The fact that An Giang province has started and launched projects and works to serve the APEC 2027 Summit Week, welcoming the 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, affirms the position of the locality rising to become a strategic destination in the region and the whole country. This is also a mark for the new term, demonstrating the determination to innovate and develop comprehensively of the Provincial Party Committee in the first term after the merger.

The projects and works will contribute to urban development, upgrading traffic infrastructure, facilitating trade and tourism, increasing domestic and foreign investment attraction, especially in the fields of services, tourism, real estate, and at the same time promoting the image of Phu Quoc Special Zone, An Giang province to the world.

The projects also help improve people's lives, enhance quality of life, create jobs, and promote community development./.
