A super rare spherical egg donated by a man to charity has been auctioned for £200 (more than 6 million VND).

BBC reported on December 16 that during an auction of fundraising products for the Iuventas Foundation, a charity that provides counseling and mental health support for young people in Oxfordshire (UK), an egg with a rare shape found a buyer for 200 pounds.

The egg had previously belonged to Ed Pownell, from Berkshire (bordering Oxfordshire). Mr. Pownell bought it for 150 pounds, then donated it to the Iuventas Foundation. At first, the charity thought it was a joke but then put it up for auction, not expecting the egg to fetch such a high price.

Roz Rapp, a representative of the Iuventas Foundation, expressed her delight at the sale. “It means we can continue what we do,” she said. Ms Rapp added that the egg was one of several items auctioned for the charity, raising a total of £5,000.

The egg’s special feature is its spherical shape, unlike other eggs that are oval and uneven at both ends. David Miller, who works for Thomson Roddick Callan Auctions, the company that previously auctioned the egg, said that such spherical eggs are considered extremely rare and “one in a billion.”

The rare egg was first discovered by a woman who found it in a carton of eggs bought from her local supermarket in the town of Ayr, Scotland. Mr Pownell said it was “money well spent” buying the egg in the first place and donating it.

"The money raised will help young people aged 13 to 25 who are struggling with mental health issues. It will help us reach more young people who need support or have been waiting for a long time," Roz Rapp said.
