A new front continues to open on the Ukrainian battlefield, that is Seversk, when in the past 24 hours, the Russian army (RFAF) advanced about 4 km north of the city, almost capturing a small settlement on the northern outskirts and cutting off communication between Seversk and the village of Serebryanka. The village of Serebryanka was on the verge of being captured by Russian forces, but now that the supply lines to the Ukrainian forces defending the village have been disrupted, the Ukrainian army (AFU) may have to withdraw from there. Meanwhile, the Russians have consolidated their positions on the northern outskirts.
Currently, RFAF commando and reconnaissance units have penetrated into the eastern suburbs of Dronivka and even crossed Highway T0513, located west of the city, advancing 1 km south. However, they have not yet established a solid bridgehead there. Additionally, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had captured the village of Verkhnokamyanske, but the village had actually been occupied by the RFAF for several weeks; but it is unclear why the official announcement was made now. From the map, it can be seen that the RFAF has created a siege on Seversk, and the pressure on the city will increase. Rybar channel said that the AFU admitted the loss of the Serebryanskoye forest and the situation in the Yampol area had significantly deteriorated. Previously, the positions in the forest allowed the AFU to "rest assured" of control over Lyman (Russian name: Krasny Liman), but the loss of control over these positions has significantly changed the situation in this direction. It is reported that the RFAF has advanced south of the Lyman-Seversk railway, affecting the AFU's logistics. The railway section between Yampol station and 438 station is now under RFAF control. Further into the urban settlement, the Russians have captured its northeastern part, including the middle of Partizanskaya Street. A look at the map at the intersection of Lyman and Seversky streets shows that the Russian military's coverage of Seversk is expanding. At the same time, Russian troops are getting closer and closer to Lyman. According to the Deep State channel, which has links with the Ukrainian intelligence service, at least half of Yampol is a "gray zone". This is essentially an admission that the AFU no longer has complete control over the village.
Military Review quoted a source from the Russian Ministry of Defense as saying that the RFAF is completing control of the village of Zarichne (known as Kirovsk in Russia). Currently, units of the RFAF Western Group are clearing the village of the remnants of the AFU's 63rd Independent Mechanized Infantry Brigade. The village of Zarichne was located next to Torske, and the border between the two villages ran along the Zherebets River. The capture of Zarichne opened the way for the Russians to advance into Lyman from the northeast. The AFU General Staff was well aware of this and deployed three brigades in this direction; in total, the RFAF Western Group faced about 19 AFU battalions there. The village of Zarichne itself was turned into a fortified area with numerous fighting positions, trenches and houses turned into bunkers. Furthermore, the Ukrainians used barricades, anti-tank ditches and mines on potential RFAF attack routes. The Ukrainians also took full advantage of the terrain, establishing a defensive line along the Zherebets River, which the Russians would have to cross. However, the Ukrainians did not expect that the Russians would skip the preparatory fire phase with bombs, artillery, and FPV UAVs.
Instead, the Russians made a surprise crossing of the river and broke straight into the defensive positions without any preparatory bombardment, catching the Ukrainians by surprise. This tactic allowed the Russians to capture Zarichne, forcing the Ukrainians to flee. The Russians are now hunting down the remaining Ukrainian troops in the village. Moving northeast of Lyman, DIVGEN channel reported that Russian attack groups entered Novoselovka near Shandryholove. After the recent loss of Shandryholove by the AFU, as well as the RFAF's complete control of the area, the RFAF has given momentum to continue attacking Derylove and Novoselivka. At Derylove, Russian troops broke through the eastern edge of the village and began advancing on the village, despite strong resistance from the AFU. By evening, Russian assault groups were reported to have also entered the northern part of Novoselivka. There are no reports of fighting in these two villages. AFU has not commented on the situation in the Shandryholove-Derylove-Novoselivka area, but some Ukrainian media outlets have reported a very serious situation in the area, while denying that Russian troops have entered the latter two villages.
According to Muchnoy, the area north of Novoselivka has entered the gray zone, as has the entire Derylove area. Muchnoy also stressed that the RFAF is expanding its zone of control not only here, but also in the Serednje and Karpivka areas (both on the Zherebets River), so the situation is very complicated in the entire Lyman direction, from which the RFAF must withdraw by the fall of 2022.
