Chinese military moves on border with Myanmar

The announcement of the training came a day after a convoy of trucks carrying goods from China into Myanmar caught fire in the town of Muse in Shan State in northern Myanmar, in what Myanmar state media called an insurgent-backed attack, according to Reuters.

The fire in Muse township occurred as Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai met top Myanmar officials in the capital Naypyidaw to discuss stability on the border.

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar on November 24 also called on Chinese citizens stranded in the Laukkai area in the Kokang region of Shan State, which borders China, to evacuate as soon as possible. The Chinese Embassy also warned that the risk to Chinese citizens in the area is very high due to the ongoing fighting between the Myanmar military and insurgents.

Earlier, a coordinated attack against the Myanmar army was launched on October 27 in Shan state and armed rebel groups seized several towns and more than 100 military posts, according to Reuters.

On November 15, Myanmar military government spokesman Zaw Min Tun said the country's military was facing "major attacks" from a significant number of armed insurgents in northeastern Shan state, eastern Kayah state and western Rakhine state.
