“Military Region 3 - 80 years of glorious tradition”

The conference's presidium included comrades: Major General Luong Van Kiem, Commander of Military Region 3; Major General Khuc Thanh Du, Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 3; Major General Doan Xuan Bo, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Army Newspaper.

In his opening speech, Major General Luong Van Kiem, Commander of Military Region 3, emphasized: Today's scientific conference is one of a series of important and practical activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the Military Region 3; an opportunity to pay tribute to and remember the compatriots, comrades, officers and soldiers of the Military Region who heroically fought, served in combat, and sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland; affirming and honoring the great feats and achievements of the Military Region 3 over the past 80 years.

At the same time, continue to foster patriotism, national pride, self-respect, the will for independence, self-reliance, self-improvement and the desire for peace ; educate, consolidate and strengthen absolute confidence in the Party's leadership in the new period...

Presenting the report to introduce the conference, Major General Doan Xuan Bo affirmed: The Northeast of the Fatherland is a dangerous area. This is the gateway to the waterways and roads of Thang Long - Dong Do - Hanoi and has been the scene of typical battles in the history of defending the country of the Vietnamese people.

Since the Party led the revolution, the Military Region 3 area has been the flag in war, the flag in peace building the country. Immediately after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born (September 2, 1945), in response to the urgent need to protect the young revolutionary government, on October 31, 1945, the Party Central Committee and the Government decided to establish War Zone 2 and War Zone 3 - the predecessors of today's Military Region 3. This is an event of special significance, marking the formation and development of the Military Region in this strategic area.

During the resistance war against the French, Military Region 3 was a fierce battlefield, where the enemy concentrated on controlling and threatening the capital and creating a springboard for attacks in all directions. With a courageous spirit and creative fighting style, the Military Region 3 armed forces, together with the people and the main forces, achieved many resounding victories, such as: "Thunder Road 5", "Uprising Road 10", "Fiery Cat Bi", contributing with the whole country to the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory.

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Military Region 3 became a great rear base, providing effective support to the front line with both human and material resources; it was a typical area for the heroic spirit of "Not a pound of rice missing, not a soldier missing" of the socialist North towards the beloved South. The Military Region's armed forces also directly fought to protect the North, shot down hundreds of planes and destroyed many warships of the US empire, and together with other forces, crushed the enemy's air raid campaigns, contributing to the Great Victory of Spring 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.

In the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, Military Region 3 is the area that excellently performs the three functions of the Army, as a fighting army, a working army, a production labor army; the leading flag of the entire army in achieving the goal of getting rich and winning. Along with that, as the cradle of the Red River civilization, Military Region 3 always upholds the fine traditions and ethics of the nation.

During the renovation period, the Military Region 3's armed forces have always been the core force in building the all-people national defense posture associated with the people's security posture. Officers and soldiers of the Military Region's armed forces have actively participated in the movements of "Repaying gratitude", "Elimination of hunger and poverty reduction", building new rural areas, preventing and fighting natural disasters, rescue, and implementing the Army's rear policy well, always being a reliable support for the Party Committee, government and people in the area.

The conference organizing committee received 44 presentations from leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, the General Department of Logistics and Technology; leaders of a number of central and local departments and branches; leaders and commanders of agencies and units inside and outside the Army; generals, historical witnesses, scientists, veterans... The presentations comprehensively, richly and deeply addressed issues surrounding the conference's theme.

* On the occasion of the conference, the People's Army Newspaper coordinated with Thien Tam Fund - VinGroup Corporation and For Vietnamese Stature Fund - Bac A Commercial Joint Stock Bank to award funding to support the construction of 5 Comrade Houses and Gratitude Houses to policy families and families in difficult circumstances in Military Region 3.
