Olympia 2024 Champion: “Perseverance helped me win”

Vo Quang Phu Duc's victory brought explosive emotions to the people of Hue as this was the third time the locality had an Olympia champion. This also meant that Quang Ninh was no longer the only province to own 3 laurel wreaths.

Phu Duc also set a record for Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted – the first school to have 7 contestants in the Olympia finals and 3 champions. The previous two students were Ho Ngoc Han (champion in 2009) and Ho Dac Thanh Chuong (champion in 2016).

Sharing with reporters, Phu Duc said he was extremely proud and happy to have brought a record back to the school.

Talking about the most stressful moment of the competition, Phu Duc shared: “That was when Nguyen Phu was only 2 points behind me. I had experienced this before in the quarterfinals. I think the factors that helped me win were my courage and smart tactics.”

Phu Duc's strategy is to try to gain an advantage in the Warm-up round, while being decisive in the Obstacle Course round.

His knowledge of many fields helped the male student majoring in Quoc Hoc answer 6/6 of the Warm-up questions and get the maximum score. After that, he continued to answer 2 more general Warm-up questions, creating a large score gap with the remaining 3 candidates.

This is the strong psychological advantage that helps Phu Duc compete confidently and continuously increase the gap in the next rounds.

Learning from the monthly round, Phu Duc has trained himself mentally to compete for 2 hours. It is worth noting that the Hue male student's bell-pressing speed has improved significantly. Thanks to that, he often gets the highest score in not-so-difficult questions and wins the final round convincingly.

Vo Quang Phu Duc was the winner of the Road to Olympia competition in week 1, month 1, quarter 3. However, in the monthly competition, Phu Duc only finished second due to failure in the Obstacle Course round. 3 months later, he entered the quarterly competition as the contestant with the highest second place score.

In the quarterfinal match, Phu Duc competed with Phan Duy Hung (Son Tay High School, Hanoi ) and won dramatically.

Phu Duc's mother is an agricultural engineer, his father is a mechanical engineer, and his grandparents are scientific researchers. Phu Duc's mother shared that the Olympia 2024 Champion liked watching the show since grade 1 and once declared that he would become a contestant in the competition.
