Quang Ninh removes difficulties and obstacles for the 2.2 billion USD LNG power project

The Quang Ninh LNG Power Plant project is located in Cua Ong ward, Quang Ninh province. According to the report of the People's Committee of Cua Ong ward, the total area to be recovered for site clearance of the project is 41.12 hectares, involving many households and organizations.

The project implementation process has encountered difficulties so far because some households have not agreed with the compensation plan and support for site clearance, affecting the progress of land handover for the project. There are some problems in verifying the origin of the land, the status of construction, and tree planting before July 1, 2004...

At the working session with the locality and related units, Mr. Le Van Anh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, emphasized that the Quang Ninh LNG Power Plant Project is a key project, of strategic significance in ensuring energy security and socio -economic development of the province. The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province requested Cua Ong ward and related units to review decisions, documents, records, clearly identify the scope and ownership entities to have solutions to completely handle existing problems, ensuring compliance with legal regulations.

At the same time, Cua Ong ward and related units need to review appropriate support mechanisms, publicize compensation plans, and organize direct dialogues with people affected by the project. Units must complete all plans and related procedures in September 2025 to hand over the site for the project.

Started in 2021 and expected to put unit 1 into operation in 2026, however, up to now, the Quang Ninh LNG Gas Power Plant Project has not been able to start construction.

Quang Ninh LNG Power Plant Project has a scale of 1 gas power plant using combined cycle gas turbine technology with a capacity of 1,500 MW; 500 kV distribution yard and infrastructure and technical works serving the power plant; LNG import terminal meeting the output scale through the port of 1.2 million tons of LNG/year.

When put into operation, the project is expected to add about 9 billion kWh of electricity per year to the national power system, contributing to ensuring energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing about VND57,700 billion to the local budget within 25 years.
