Preschool teacher with more than 30 years of teaching experience, treats students like his own children.

With more than 30 years of experience in the profession, preschool teacher Doan Van Minh (Dong Mai Kindergarten, Quang Ninh) has taught dozens of young generations and has always received the love of parents and students.

In a preschool environment familiar with the image of gentle female teachers, the perseverance of a male teacher becomes a special highlight.

At Dong Mai Kindergarten (Dong Mai ward, Quang Ninh province), teacher Doan Van Minh (born in 1974, residing in Dong Mai ward) has devoted more than 30 years to the profession of "cultivating people" at the preschool level, where childhood begins.

Teacher Doan Van Minh has been teaching preschool students for more than 30 years.

Recalling the time when he first started teaching in 1994, when he had just started working at Dong Mai Kindergarten, Mr. Minh entered the profession in a situation of extreme poverty.

Dong Mai Kindergarten was then a small, shabby establishment with 8 classrooms and was managed by the commune government. The kindergarten teacher’s salary was paid in rice, and each month, he received 30 kg.

According to records, at that time, Mr. Minh was one of the first male preschool teachers in the country.

Many people were surprised and even advised him to change to another profession to make the work less difficult. However, with his love for children and determination, Mr. Minh still stayed in school and in class.

The children in the class are considered by Mr. Minh as his children and are taken care of, guided in studying and playing every day.

Currently, Dong Mai Kindergarten is more spacious with 18 classes. Teacher Minh is in charge of the 5-year-old class with 35 students, the largest class in the school.

"At the beginning of every school year, my class always has a lot of parents registering their children to study, but according to regulations, each class cannot have more than 35 students. There are parents who used to teach me in preschool so they trust me a lot," said Mr. Minh.

Sharing about the profession, Mr. Minh said, being a preschool teacher requires perseverance, love for the job, and love for children. With the nature of the job lasting from 6:30 to 17:30, preschool teachers must be meticulous and hard-working when spending time guiding children little by little, from eating, sleeping, hygiene, and correcting every word.

The classroom space was personally decorated by Mr. Minh to be clean, with a variety of toys and neat in the 5-year-old class.

Married but childless, to him, each child is not only a student but also a beloved child. Teacher Minh considers 35 innocent faces as family members, as his daily joy.

The precious thing is that during the years of working with children, Mr. Minh always researched and created to bring the children the most lively and warm learning environment. He personally made toys from simple, friendly materials. Instead of resting during the summer, he searched for safe materials to make more toys for children before the new school year.

In 2024, the teacher also spent 34 million VND of his savings to buy new toys and redecorate the classroom, turning it into a colorful space filled with children's laughter. His 5-year-old class has a rich and diverse number of learning and playing tools, attracting children to study. After use, teachers and students arrange the tools neatly.

"I don't have children, so I consider the children here as my own. In addition to teaching, I take care of them and am proficient in tying their hair, feeding them, lulling them to sleep, and guiding them in playing. I consider the classroom as my second home, and the children as my children, so spending my own money to decorate the learning space and buy toys for them is a joy and without hesitation," Mr. Minh confided.

After more than 30 years of teaching, Mr. Minh received many certificates of merit from the education sector.

That devotion and silent sacrifice has brought Mr. Minh many noble titles in the education industry.

In the competitions for excellent preschool teachers at school as well as at the town and provincial levels, he always achieved high results. In particular, Mr. Minh was recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training for his outstanding achievements in educating children with disabilities.

Taking care of normal children is hard, taking care of and teaching children with disabilities and autism is even more difficult. However, with the love, perseverance and well-trained skills of the teacher, after a period of instruction, the children have clearly changed, knowing how to take care of their personal hygiene, understanding and getting along with their friends, and absorbing everything around them.

Dong Mai Kindergarten, where teacher Doan Van Minh works, is now much more spacious than before.

After all, the greatest reward Mr. Minh received was the pure love, innocent trust of his students and respect from his parents.

Presently, Mr. Minh is one of two preschool teachers in Quang Ninh; there are more than 400 preschool teachers nationwide.

Ms. Pham Thi Hien, Principal of Dong Mai Kindergarten, said that Mr. Minh is a professional, loves children and is dedicated to his work. “Every year, the school still buys enough supplies and toys for children according to regulations, but Mr. Minh always spends his own salary to buy more because he wants to give the children more. At the beginning of each new school year, Mr. Minh's class seems to be more beautiful because he pays a lot of attention to improving the learning and playing environment for the children,” Ms. Hien said.
