The latest perspective image of the renovation and beautification of Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square, published by the Institute of Urban Planning and Architecture ( Hanoi University of Civil Engineering) on September 11, shows that this area still has many unfinished items.

According to this unit, what exists in the Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc square area at this time is only the first phase of phase 1 of the project.

The consulting unit will continue to receive community opinions to implement phase 2 in the coming time.

The Institute also said that the renovation and embellishment of Dong Kinh - Nghia Thuc Square was designed based on a cultural foundation, aiming towards modern and progressive development, while incorporating the glorious 80-year history of the country.

Explaining the reason for placing the LED screen right in the center of the square and choosing yellow paint to surround it, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Deputy Director of the Institute of Urban Planning and Architecture - said the design idea considered the building's frame as a "cultural foundation" placed on a 12m wide, 17m long LED screen, symbolizing modernity combined with tradition.

The chosen yellow color represents the closeness and harmony with the space of the old quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake.

"Instead of overly modern images that could be out of place in this area, we chose a design language with simple, friendly lines," he explained.

According to Mr. Cuong, the LED screen plan has been calculated to harmonize with neighboring buildings, especially building number 7 Dinh Tien Hoang, which after completion will create a synchronous whole with the surrounding space.

Currently, the bottom of the LED screen is being covered by the construction unit to temporarily cover the existing electrical booths.

In the next 3-4 months, when the power booths are moved, this area will continue to be designed and renovated to suit the square space.

Specifically, the unit will try to bring modern details and images suitable for today's era in the area under the LED screen.

In addition, the entire square floor will be studied, renovated and the urban facilities system will be rearranged. The seats and flower beds will be arranged in a flexible modular form, which can be disassembled and moved depending on the event.

"After this period, we will add more trees and modular seats with many arrangements to create living and playing spaces for people. The ground surface will keep the architecture simple, harmonious, with the characteristics of Vietnam - Hanoi - Old Quarter, absolutely not bringing foreign architectural elements into the project," he affirmed.

In phase 2, authorities will also study solutions to develop underground space for the proposed square with 3 basements.
