Sa Ly borders Loc Binh district ( Lang Son province) not only has beautiful nature with waterfalls, vast grasslands and amazing primeval forests but is also the land of the Tay, Nung and San Chi ethnic communities with rusticity, simplicity and rich identity.
Ao Troi is located in the middle of the forest and almost never runs out of water. |
We went to Sa Ly on a late winter day. From Bac Giang city, we traveled nearly 90 kilometers through Lun slope, waded through Ta Cang tunnel to reach Sa Ly when the mist had just cleared. The passes were winding, and lychee flowers were blooming on both sides of the road. Mr. Au Van Dat (Tay ethnic group), Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Commune People's Council, along with his son Au Van Trieu and another local youth, led us to the top of Cam mountain by motorbike. Although I had been introduced to him beforehand, I was still overwhelmed by the majesty and felt that humans were so small in front of nature.
The car slowly moved from one mountain peak to the other, as if climbing on the back of a dinosaur. The higher we went, the thicker the clouds became, and some places were a bit dangerous. Although it was so tiring, the amazing beauty of the mountains and forests made up for it, and the drops of sweat that soaked our backs were quickly dried by the mountain breeze and the scent of the sky.
Cam Mountain stretches far and wide, with part belonging to Lang Son and part belonging to Bac Giang. Although this season is dry, the grass and trees on the mountain top are still green because of the dew. Carpets of mua flowers, yellow aster flowers and many other rare and exotic flowers bloom all over the mountains and forests. Mr. Dat was born in the highlands and loves the peaceful wilderness, so whenever he has free time, he climbs the mountain to visit the place where he used to herd buffalo and bathe in the stream with his childhood friends.
Mr. Au Van Dat (in front) took us to explore Cam mountain. |
He said, “When I retire, I plan to buy a herd of buffalo to graze on this mountain, then I can enjoy a peaceful life.” Au Van Trieu (born in 1995) is like his father, passionate about going to the forest, tough and skillful in survival skills in the mountains and forests. He is currently the Deputy Secretary of the Commune Youth Union, Secretary of the Village Youth Union and participates in the militia and self-defense force.
Recently, the route to Cam Mountain has become easier thanks to a unit that opened the road to bring equipment to install a wind power testing system. At the top of Cam Mountain (also known as 975 Peak - 975 m above sea level), looking at the looming village, I felt like I was riding the wind and stepping on the clouds. Before my eyes, each mountain peak looked like a beautiful row of raspberries. According to Trieu, in the cold winter, when Mau Son Peak (Lang Son) has ice and snow, it is easy to see this amazing natural phenomenon on 975 Peak, because this place is very close to Mau Son.
The impressive point for tourists when coming to Cam mountain is enjoying the cool, fresh air, wild nature; the trails hugging the mountain look like the multi-layered skirt of a highland girl. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can clearly observe Nga stream and Troi pond. The pond is quite large, located in the middle of the forest and almost never runs out of water. The beautiful scenery of the mountains and forests has attracted many tourist groups from all over to come and explore.

After a temporary lunch on the mountain top, Trieu and I chose to walk through the grass field and then follow the trail between the old forest down to the mouth of Cam stream. The cool water flows all year round. According to Trieu, although it has not rained for many months, Cam stream still flows continuously, that is thanks to the primeval forest here that is still preserved.
Cam Stream not only provides water for production but is also an important source of domestic water for many villages in the commune. In the summer, the strong waterfall makes Cam Stream even more majestic. Many groups of visitors come here to dive and enjoy the cool natural water. In the forest and in the stream, there are quite diverse flora and fauna such as birds, insects, fish, shrimp, crabs, snails, etc. The most convincing evidence is that in less than 20 minutes, young man Au Van Trieu has brought back a net with dozens of large and small fish.
Nature has bestowed Sa Ly with enchanting landscapes and a temperate climate. The scenery is beautiful, the people are warm, but in this highland commune, I still have many concerns. Although there is great potential for tourism, everything here is still very wild. To develop, it needs a "conductor" to exploit and turn this place into an attractive destination for tourists from all over the world. This is also the wish and proposal of the cadres and people of Sa Ly commune. Recently, when seeing a unit testing and investing in a wind power system on Cam mountain, the people were very happy and hopeful that when wind power develops, there will be a concrete road up the mountain and tourism in this land will have a chance to flourish.
