One of six banyan trees recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
On September 18, Mr. Ngo Van Thang - Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park ( Gia Lai ) said that the Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has just issued Decision No. 180 recognizing six banyan trees (Ficus glaberrima Blume) in the garden as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
The recognized banyan trees are located in lot 1, plot 4, sub-area 433B and lot 3, plot 2, sub-area 433A. These are ancient banyan trees 218 - 300 years old, with an average height of 32 - 42 m. These banyan trees have special ecological value associated with the history of the development of the Kon Ka Kinh forest ecosystem, and are important in preserving biodiversity in the Central Highlands.
Through this, these heritage trees will receive professional advice on care and longevity. In addition, they will be promoted and publicized on the official media of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.
Therefore, Kon Ka Kinh National Park, Chairman of Ayun Commune People's Committee, local community where the Vietnam Heritage Trees are recognized will coordinate with Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment to manage, care for and promote the value of these six heritage trees.

During a working trip to Kon Ka Kinh National Park last August, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan assessed that the park is an important asset, with special value for tourism and conservation. Also during the working trip, Mr. Tuan emphasized to the working delegation that it is necessary to turn the value of nature into value - conservation, from here people and tourists can enjoy the value, especially students know the advantages and values of nature bestowed on Gia Lai. According to Mr. Tuan, the province will allocate resources to invest in infrastructure and roads to the national park. Along with that, invite international press delegations to visit to spread the image of Kon Ka Kinh to the outside.
Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve, with a total area of 413,511 hectares, includes 3 functional sub-zones (core zone, buffer zone and transition zone). The core zone includes Kon Ka Kinh National Park and Kon Chu Rang Nature Reserve. Here, 1,647 species of higher plants, 91 species of lower plants, 87 species of mammals, 326 species of birds, 77 species of reptiles, 58 species of amphibians, 321 species of insects and many other groups of animals... are identified, typical of the forest ecosystem of the Central Highlands provinces; meeting the criteria for UNESCO to recognize it as a world biosphere reserve.
