After nearly 2 months of piloting E10 gasoline: People gradually adapt

After nearly 2 months of pilot implementation, E10 biofuel has gradually appeared in people's consumption habits. With the advantages of reducing emissions, being environmentally friendly and suitable for many vehicle models, this fuel is expected to completely replace mineral gasoline from 2026.

Positive signals, E10 gasoline has the basis to be widely deployed from January 2026

According to the proposal of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , from January 1, 2026, E10 bio-fuel will become a mandatory fuel for cars and motorbikes. This is the first step in the roadmap to switch to green fuel nationwide.

E10 biofuel, with a composition of 10% bioethanol mixed with 90% mineral gasoline, is considered an important solution to reduce CO₂ emissions, significantly reducing toxic gas emissions into the environment, while promoting the ethanol agriculture industry and diversifying energy sources. According to the Government's roadmap, E10 biofuel will gradually replace mineral gasoline on the market.

People fill up with E10 gasoline at Thai Thinh gas station ( Hanoi )

Currently, E10 gasoline has been piloted for sale in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City by the two largest market players, the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) and the Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL).

After nearly 2 months of implementation, the response from the people has been quite positive. At the petrol station at 194 Thai Thinh Street (Hanoi), the number of customers coming in and out is bustling, many of whom choose to use E10 petrol.

Sharing with PetroTimes reporter, Ms. Nguyen Thu Chung (Cau Giay ward, Hanoi) said: "Compared to RON95 gasoline, E10 gasoline is a little cheaper, not significantly, but the environmental factor is what I care about. I don't see a big difference, so now I'm used to it and choose E10 gasoline."

Mr. Nguyen Quang Thuan, an office worker (Dong Da ward, Hanoi) shared: "I ride my motorbike every day, at first I was a bit hesitant, but after more than a month of using E10 gasoline, I found that the motorbike runs smoothly, without any sluggishness or difficulty starting. The important thing is that I feel more secure because I know this type of gasoline helps reduce emissions into the environment."

Mr. Tran Duc Thanh (Ngoc Ha ward, Hanoi), a private car owner, said: “My car has been running on E10 gasoline for nearly two months now, without any problems. The acceleration feels smoother than when using RON92 before. I think that if this type of fuel both ensures engine safety and is environmentally friendly, it should be encouraged for widespread use.”

Ms. Le Thi Thu (Hanoi) who drives a technology service car said: “When I travel a lot, I care most about the cost and stability of the engine. E10 gasoline is practically no different from old gasoline, and it also helps reduce environmental pollution. I see this as a positive trend and am ready to use it for a long time.”

Not only people, but also transport businesses have recorded positive results. Mr. Tran Huu Dung, owner of a passenger car business in Hanoi, said: “We have tested E10 gasoline on a number of vehicles. The results show that fuel consumption does not increase, the engine operates stably. If it is widely available and the price is reasonable, businesses are willing to switch completely to both save costs and show responsibility to the environment.”

From the above opinions, it can be seen that after a period of practical experience, people have gradually become more confident and ready to switch to using E10 gasoline when they see that the engine operates stably, while contributing to reducing emissions and demonstrating social responsibility.

Production increases, the market gradually adapts

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Do Quoc Thai, manager of PVOIL Thai Thinh petrol station, said that if on the first day of the pilot sale (August 1), E10 gasoline only accounted for about 5% of total output, now it has increased to 15-20%. This change shows that people are increasingly interested in and trust the product. In the coming time, the store will continue to introduce and promote to expand the customer base, thereby improving business efficiency.

Responding to the press, PVOIL Deputy General Director Le Trung Hung said that after more than a month of implementation in Hanoi and Hai Phong, the mixing, transportation and distribution of E10 gasoline has been strictly controlled, ensuring technical standards. Notably, at four stores in Hanoi, the average E10 output reached 10 m³/day, accounting for over 15% of total sales, and no complaints about quality have been recorded.

According to Mr. Le Trung Hung, PVOIL has completed procedures to blend E10 at Dung Quat warehouse (Quang Ngai) with a capacity of more than 15,000 m³/month and initially supply to the Central market. When demand increases, the company will expand blending in Lien Chieu (Da Nang), Chan May (Hue) and Vung Ro (Dak Lak) to ensure supply.

Mr. Hung affirmed that the pilot implementation in Da Nang and Quang Ngai is not only a step in preparing infrastructure but also demonstrates the readiness of the key enterprise for the roadmap to apply E10 nationwide from January 1, 2026. With a system of more than 900 stores and existing facilities, PVOIL is capable of meeting internal needs and processing and blending for other key sources, contributing to ensuring a stable supply for the market.

Petrolimex launches E10 gasoline sales in Ho Chi Minh City

According to Petrolimex Deputy General Director Tran Ngoc Nam, 36 pilot stores in Ho Chi Minh City have recorded a gradual increase in consumption, reaching an average of 40 m³/day. Petrolimex identifies E10 gasoline as an important component in the strategy of developing green, clean, and environmentally friendly energy. Therefore, the group is upgrading its infrastructure, expanding its ethanol blending network, and coordinating with domestic and foreign manufacturers to ensure a stable supply, on schedule. At the same time, Petrolimex is also researching new energy solutions such as hydrogen and renewable fuels.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Nam emphasized: "Switching to E10 biofuel not only contributes to environmental protection and fulfills the Government's commitment to reduce emissions, but also helps ensure energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels."

For E10 gasoline to truly enter life and become the main fuel from 2026, in addition to the consensus of people and businesses, it is necessary to have the drastic participation of management agencies. Strengthening communication, answering technical questions, and publicizing test results will help strengthen consumer confidence. At the same time, it is necessary to expand the distribution network and ensure consistent fuel quality nationwide.

If these things are done well, E10 gasoline will not only be an important step in the journey to gradually reduce fossil fuels, but also a testament to Vietnam's efforts in fulfilling its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, moving towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
