(Dan Tri) - Durian priced from only 35,000 VND/kg is causing a fever in Hanoi, attracting many buyers and continuously selling out just a few hours after being on sale.

In recent days, a number of fruit stores in Hanoi have simultaneously launched a program to sell Ri6 durian and Thai durian at the price of 35,000-45,000 VND/kg. This low price quickly attracted a large number of customers, causing many points of sale to be sold out within a few hours of opening.

A survey at some traditional markets and fruit shops in Hanoi shows that the current price of durian ranges from 60,000 to 90,000 VND/kg depending on the type, nearly double the promotional price mentioned above.

Sharing with Dan Tri newspaper reporter, Ms. Kim Hoa, owner of Hoang Hoa fruit warehouse on Thuong Thanh street (Viet Hung ward, Hanoi) shared that this time the store imported many types of cheap mini durian from Dak Lak .

She said that mini Ri6 durian is being sold at 35,000 VND/kg, and mini Thai durian is 38,000 VND/kg. All are genuine goods shipped from Dak Lak, absolutely not returned goods or poor quality goods. For the first-class Ri6 durian, the selling price is 50,000 VND/kg.

According to Ms. Hoa, thanks to importing large quantities, the price is cheap, the store accepts to sell at low prices to attract customers. "Every day we import 2-3 tons of cheap mini durian, usually after only 1-2 hours of selling, it is sold out", she shared.

Similarly, at a fruit shop on 19/5 Street (Ha Dong Ward, Hanoi), for many days now, the owner of this shop has been discounting Ri6 durian and Thai durian to 38,000 VND/kg. Each customer can only buy a maximum of 2 fruits.

According to the shop owner, the normal selling price of this type of durian ranges from 68,000 to 78,000 VND/kg, but in recent days the shop has accepted to sell at no profit to attract customers and increase interaction.

This person also confirmed that all durians were imported directly from gardens in Dak Lak, not returned or chemically treated. Due to the large number of customers, the store does not accept deliveries, only sells directly on the spot.

Ms. Bich Ngoc (Dai Mo Ward, Hanoi) just bought 2 more discounted durians, each weighing more than 1kg for a total price of nearly 200,000 VND. “I learned about the information through the store’s TikTok channel, I didn’t think the price of durian would be so cheap this year. I had to wait until early afternoon when the goods arrived to choose a large one because it sold out very quickly,” she shared.

Dak Lak - the "durian capital" of Vietnam is entering the main harvest season from around August to September every year. The whole province currently has 38,800 hectares of durian, of which the harvest area is 22,600 hectares, the expected output this year is estimated at about 400,000 tons, an increase of 100,000 tons compared to 2024.

In the first months of the year, China - Vietnam's largest durian export market - tightened inspections on imported goods quality, causing Vietnam's durian export volume and turnover to plummet. Specifically, the first four months of the year only reached about 120-130 million USD, with an estimated export volume of 35,000 tons (about 20% of the plan).

However, recently, Vietnam's durian exports are recovering strongly. Export turnover in July alone reached 731 million USD, up 33% over the same period last year, contributing to the total export turnover of fruits and vegetables in the first 7 months of the year estimated at more than 3.8 billion USD.

Thanks to a standard supply with low cadmium residue levels in key growing areas such as the Central Highlands and the Southeast, along with strict quality control from harvesting to packaging, the company has been able to bring durian back to major markets such as China and Thailand.
