After the kidnapping of a 3-year-old girl for ransom: Long An strengthens security and safety at schools

On the afternoon of October 4, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Long An province, Nguyen Hong Phuc, said that he had just signed a document to send to the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns, cities and schools for preschool and primary education, requesting to strengthen the work of ensuring security, order and safety of schools in Long An province.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc, in recent times, in many provinces and cities, there have been a number of incidents where students were infiltrated into schools, kidnapped by criminals for the purpose of extortion or human trafficking; students were robbed of their property, or physically abused on their way to school.

In particular, the incident occurred on the afternoon of October 2 at the kindergarten in Kien Phat Residential Area, Ward 6, Tan An City, Long An Province. Accordingly, the subject entered the school, took a 3-year-old girl home and kidnapped her, demanding a ransom of 2 billion VND. Afterwards, the police arrested the subject and successfully and safely rescued the girl.

To strengthen security and order in schools and ensure safety for preschool children and primary school students, especially during pick-up and drop-off times and school dismissal times, it is necessary to pay attention and do well.

The Department of Education and Training of Long An province requests the Department of Education and Training of districts, towns, cities and affiliated units to coordinate with parents and mass organizations inside and outside schools to carry out communication work. Organize dissemination and implementation of legal documents of the State, documents of ministries, branches and localities on ensuring political security, order and social safety.

Strengthen propaganda and education to raise awareness and sense of responsibility of cadres, teachers, staff, parents and students in ensuring security, order and safety of schools. Coordinate training for cadres, teachers, staff and parents on knowledge and skills to ensure safety for children.

When detecting strange objects with suspicious activities or signs, quickly notify the nearest police agency; propagate to help parents raise vigilance in managing children at home.

During classroom activities, teachers teach children some skills to deal with situations, including refusing to follow strangers; providing students with some knowledge and skills to prevent getting lost and how to handle getting lost. In case a stranger tries to get close, children need to shout loudly to seek help from people around.

In addition, the Department also proposed to proactively strengthen close coordination with local authorities, mass organizations, especially local police forces in implementing joint plans on ensuring security and order in schools. Regularly organize inspections, supervision and timely handling of violations in surrounding activities.
