TPO - Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partners have proposed the idea of building a tunnel under the Dong Nai River to replace the bridge construction for the Cat Lai Bridge Project.

On November 15, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee worked with the leaders of Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partner, Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co.STEC, on cooperation in implementing underground traffic infrastructure projects in the province.

At the meeting, Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partners proposed the idea of building a tunnel across Dong Nai River instead of building a bridge for the Cat Lai Bridge Project connecting Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the representative of Fecon Joint Stock Company, building a tunnel across the river instead of a bridge will limit the difficulties and obstacles in site clearance. Thereby, minimizing the social impact on the residential areas living in the project planning area.

Representatives of departments and branches of Dong Nai province said that in the coming time, Dong Nai will be a large construction site with many infrastructures, industrial zones and transportation systems being deployed. Dong Nai province also hopes that Fecon Joint Stock Company will research projects and works that not only invest from the state budget but also from other sources of capital.

Regarding the proposal to build a tunnel across the Dong Nai River instead of building a bridge for the Cat Lai Bridge Project, Dong Nai Province requested Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partners to conduct further research and report a detailed plan to the Provincial People's Committee. At the same time, the unit also needs to proactively work with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to reach an agreement.

The Cat Lai Bridge project is considered one of the urgent traffic projects to solve the current overload of the Cat Lai ferry. At the same time, when the project is completed, it will also form an inter-regional traffic route connecting Dong Nai with Ho Chi Minh City and other localities in the region, contributing to gradually completing the regional traffic network. Along with that, it will create more connections between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh International Airport via Provincial Road 25C.

Recently, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City have had many meetings on planning, agreeing on the route and implementation time of the Cat Lai Bridge Construction Project. However, up to now, the two sides have not agreed on the time to start the construction of the bridge. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the two localities have agreed on the planning but to implement the project, they must conduct a pre-feasibility study to add to the general planning. Cat Lai Bridge will be prioritized for implementation from now until 2030.
