Qualcomm has just launched the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 mobile chip version for low-cost smartphones, promising to bring similar features to high-end phones.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is an upgrade of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 mobile chip launched by Qualcomm in September last year, targeting smartphones in the low-cost segment.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 will be the world's first low-cost mobile chip built on the 4nm process, helping to increase processing performance and save energy. The overall processing performance of Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is increased by 10% compared to the 4 Gen 1 generation launched last year.

Qualcomm said that Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is equipped with 8 processing cores, including 2 high-performance processing cores (maximum clock speed of 2.2GHz) to handle heavy tasks and 6 efficient, energy-saving processing cores (maximum clock speed of 2.0GHz), helping to handle light tasks and consume less energy.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is also equipped with an AI engine to support artificial intelligence features on low-cost smartphones.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is integrated with the Snapdragon X61 modem, allowing smartphones to connect to the 5G network with a maximum download speed of 2.5Gbps and a maximum upload speed of 900Mbps. This processor chip supports FullHD+ resolution screens, 120Hz refresh rate, LPDDR5x standard RAM and high-speed UFS 3.1 storage.

Smartphones equipped with Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip will be supported with main camera with maximum resolution of 108 megapixels, fast focus feature, anti-noise when recording video ... however, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is only limited to recording Full HD 1080p video at 60 frames/second (or 120 frames/second at HD 720p).

Like its predecessor, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip only supports Quick Charge 4+ fast charging, allowing the battery to be charged from 0 to 50% in just 15 minutes of charging.

The limitation of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip is that it only supports WiFi 5 (instead of the higher-end WiFi 6 standard) and Bluetooth 5.1 standard.

It is expected that the first smartphone using the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip will be launched in the second half of this year, with Xiaomi and Vivo being the two companies that have committed to using this new chip model on their products.

With the arrival of Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, many people hope to soon experience high-end features on smartphones without having to spend too much money on this consumable item.
