The number of casualties rose to over 1,000 people.

The death toll from a fatal train crash in eastern India has risen to more than 1,000, according to new figures.

Specifically, as of 6:00 a.m. on June 3, at least 207 people had died and 850 were injured in this terrible accident. Hundreds of people, especially young people, lined up at hospitals to donate blood to help the victims.

The accident occurred after the Coromandel Express passenger train running from Kolkata to Chennai derailed and overturned after colliding with a goods train in Balasore district of Odisha state on June 2.

Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, while government and air force teams were also mobilized to help. Local officials confirmed that nearly 50 ambulances were dispatched to transport the injured to hospitals, not to mention a large number of buses were also mobilized to support the rescue work.

On Twitter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi affirmed that he would mobilize all necessary assistance to help the victims.
