Analysis of high school graduation exam score data announced by the Ministry of Education and Training shows that block C (Literature, History, Geography) scores nationwide have increased dramatically this year.

With 704,024 candidates taking the exam, the average score of block C nationwide is 20.95 points. Meanwhile, last year, the average score of this block was 18.97. Thus, the average score this year has increased by nearly 2 points compared to 2023.

Considering each score threshold separately, the number of candidates achieving a score of 20 or higher in this exam block this year is more than 450,000 students, an increase of more than 1.6 times compared to last year. The higher the score threshold, the number of candidates achieving a score increases several times to several dozen times compared to last year.

Specifically, at the score mark of 27 or higher, the number of candidates achieved was 23,343, 6.3 times higher than last year.

At the 28-point mark or higher, the number of candidates achieved was 7,620, 10.3 times higher than last year.

With a score of 29 points or higher, the number of candidates achieving this mark is 956, 36.8 times higher than last year.

For the mark of 29.5 or higher, the total number of candidates nationwide achieving this mark is 121, while last year only 1 student achieved this level, an increase of 121 times.

Notably, this exam block has 19 valedictorians. All of them achieved a score of 29.75. Meanwhile, last year, no candidate achieved this score.

The sudden increase in the C block scores is said to be due to the sharp increase in scores for each subject: Literature, History, and Geography. In all three subjects, the number of 9-10 scores increased to a record high.

Specifically in Literature, this year the country has seen a sharp increase in the number of scores of 9 or higher. Of these, 2 candidates scored 10, 1,843 candidates scored 9.75, 14,198 candidates scored 9.5... The total number of candidates with 9 points or higher nationwide is 92,055. The whole country has more than 687,000 papers with 7 points or higher, accounting for 64.57% of the total number of candidates taking the exam.

Many provinces are surprising in this subject. For example, Bac Ninh accounts for nearly 1/3 of the 9.75 Literature scores nationwide; out of 10 candidates in Ninh Binh, 7 have a Literature score of 8 or higher; out of 4 candidates in Tra Vinh taking the Literature exam, more than 1 student will get a 9.

As for History, the average score this year is 6.57 points, while last year it was 6.03. This is also the subject with the number of absolute scores nearly 3 times higher than last year with 2,108 exams scoring 10 points (in 2023 there were 789 exams scoring 10 points).

In Geography, the average score this year is 7.19 points, 1 point higher than last year (in 2023 it was 6.15 points). The highest score achieved by most candidates is 7.25, while last year it was 6.25 points. This subject has 3,175 candidates achieving a score of 10, while last year only 35 candidates achieved it, an increase of more than 90%.

For the same reason, many experts believe that this year's university entrance exam scores in block C will increase sharply, 1-3 points higher than last year.

A province unexpectedly increased nearly 50 places in Literature score of the 2024 high school graduation exam. Once ranked 51st, Tra Vinh province unexpectedly rose to second place in the country in Literature score of the 2024 high school graduation exam, just behind Ninh Binh province.
