Playwright Moc Tung keeps his published works until today.
From "little playwright" to "golden" scriptwriter
With over 60 years of dedication to the art of cải lương, composer Mộc Tùng admits that he is a person who lives by his artistic soul. It is because of his love for art and cải lương that he tried his best to convince his father - a Confucian scholar - that “singing” is not “inferior”.
“Art and reformed opera are beautiful, they are the traditions of the nation. Artists are the ones who preserve beauty. We cannot let a few “bad apples” spoil the whole pot of soup. After much persuasion, my father finally agreed. At that time, I followed the Da Ly Huong troupe, then followed the Dong Au Truong Thanh troupe,” playwright Moc Tung recounted.
In the early days of joining the troupe, he was willing to do any job, no matter how hard or arduous, just to learn the profession. Receiving encouragement from his predecessors, Moc Tung tried his hand at writing scripts. His first work, "Where is the root?" was warmly received by the public, paving the way for his journey to become a playwright. "At that time, I was just over 20, young and small in stature, so my seniors often jokingly called me a... little playwright" - he laughed, recalling his memorable youth.
Playwright Moc Tung considers himself a “wandering man” because since he started his career, he has lived and composed everywhere. He used to “eat rice” from the troupes Da Ly Huong, Dong Au, Thanh Minh - Thanh Nga, Minh Tu - Minh Canh, Thai Duong, Thanh Huong, Truong Son, etc. “At that time, each reformed opera troupe “fed” a permanent playwright. This person only had to eat and then write plays. I was that “guy” - he said jokingly.
The "brainchildren" of playwright Moc Tung were born one after another and were all enthusiastically welcomed by music lovers such as When the sun rises, Bridge of moonlit nights, Misty old path (co-written with Yen Ha), By the river Trem (co-written with Thieu Hoa),... In particular, the play Life of a heroic widow (co-written with Hoa Phuong) once "made waves" on many stages: Kien Giang , Thanh Huong - Hung Minh, Thanh Minh - Thanh Nga, Thai Duong,...
The Hero's Life once "made waves" on many stages.
Being quite close to the late playwright Hoa Phuong, with a harmonious lifestyle and a mindset of always wanting to find beauty for the reformed stage, he was loved by the late playwright Hoa Phuong, who taught him the craft and called him an assistant. Moc Tung called himself "Hoa Phuong's student".
As a composer with emotions and soul based on the "material" of things "seen and heard", his scripts all contain philosophies of life that make the audience ponder a little. The characters "born" by playwright Moc Tung mostly have their own personalities, creating space for the artists as well as attracting the audience when performing. The playwright revealed: "After meeting playwright Hoa Phuong, I studied properly, but before that I only relied on the flat, asking, falling, and heavy tones to write."

In a career of more than 60 years devoted to the art of reformed opera, composer Moc Tung has hundreds of reformed opera scripts, short reformed opera pieces, and traditional songs performed on stage, in audio competitions, filmed on video , and broadcast on many different radio and television stations.
Long An is the destination
After many years of traveling, playwright Moc Tung finally chose Long An (present-day Tay Ninh province) as his “stopping place”. He got married and “joined” the Cultural Information and Exhibition Center of Long An province (old). Here, he participated in mass cultural activities and continued to compose. The play Oath in front of the temple was performed on the stage of the Long An Cai Luong Art Troupe (now the Vam Co Cai Luong Art Troupe) and created a buzz. After that, the Troupe continued to “order” many other scripts from him.
During his decades of association with Long An, playwright Moc Tung not only wrote cai luong scripts but was also in charge of the opera club and poetry club. The playwright revealed: “Poetry is my soul.” He sees poetry as a way to express his feelings, a gentle highlight in the picture of his life.
Having been attached to Long An for more than 30 years, composer Moc Tung said that he owes this land a debt of gratitude. The poem Long An he wrote 10 years ago, here are a few lines to conclude and also express the author's feelings for this land:
I love Long An land
Like loving the peaceful breath every day
Decades on this land
Give us every minute, every second of love./.
