At the discussion, Vice Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Society Trieu The Hung said that after 8 years of implementation, the 2016 Press Law and its guiding documents have revealed many limitations and inadequacies that are no longer appropriate.
In the context of many changes in the socio -economic situation, especially the strong development of the internet, social networks, application of information technology in press and communication activities; the process of reorganizing the State apparatus, merging administrative units. Along with that is the need to form and develop large press agencies, playing a leading role, orienting information...

These changes pose an urgent need to innovate the content and methods of press activities, the organization of press agencies, and promptly amend and supplement the Press Law to meet practical needs.
Currently, the draft Law on Press (amended) is in the process of being submitted by the Government to the National Assembly for consideration, verification, and comments, and is expected to be approved at the 10th Session of the National Assembly (October 2025).

At the seminar, delegates contributed comments on many key contents in the draft Press Law (amended), including: press agency model and press activities in cyberspace.
Delegates also gave comments on subjects licensed to operate press, press management in cyberspace and regulations to ensure feasibility, effectiveness and efficiency in implementation.

Taking note of comments, Mr. Trieu The Hung affirmed that this is an important source of information for the drafting agency and the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Society to continue researching and perfecting the draft law.
