From November to February, Lao Cai enters the real winter with the phenomenon of dense fog covering all the highland areas. Sa Pa, Y Ty or Bac Ha, Mu Cang Chai, Tram Tau... seem to be immersed in a hazy world , where houses and trees only appear dimly through the white fog. But when I held those photos in my hand, I felt it was all worth it.”

In particular, December is the season of the brilliant To Day flowers, especially in communes such as Mu Cang Chai, Pung Luong, Lao Chai... attracting a lot of tourists. Ms. Nguyen Phuong (Thai Ha, Hanoi) shared: "When the whole world is still cold, the highlands are being warmed by To Day flowers. I always arrange the end of the year to go see To Day flowers in Mu Cang Chai, I never get bored".
Highland markets - unique cultural identity
Not only has majestic nature, Lao Cai also attracts tourists by the unique markets of ethnic minorities. Bac Ha market, Can Cau market... are destinations not to be missed. This is where many Mong, Dao, Tay, Nung ethnic people from remote villages gather to exchange and trade agricultural products, brocades, livestock. The bustling atmosphere of the market and the colorful traditional costumes create a vivid cultural picture. Tourists can enjoy specialties such as thang co, five-color sticky rice, corn wine... and shop for unique handicrafts as souvenirs.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong (Cau Giay, Hanoi) shared: “I love going to the highlands in the fall and winter, the scenery is magical, the bare tree branches are covered with dew drops like hanging beautiful crystals, especially sitting in a market session next to a hot pot of thang co, sipping a cup of fragrant corn wine… wonderful!”.

Realizing the great potential of autumn-winter tourism, local authorities and businesses in Lao Cai have continuously invested in upgrading infrastructure. From expanded and renovated roads, to a system of hotels and homestays with full modern amenities built to serve the increasing accommodation needs of tourists.
