Previously, late in the afternoon of September 28, 2025, the People's Committee of Ta Van commune ( Lao Cai province) received a report from the commune police about two German tourists, Mr. Moritz Wolfram (born in 1989) and Ms. Kathrin Sophie (born in 1994) getting lost in the forest area of Hoang Lien National Park.

Due to heavy thunderstorms, it was difficult to track the route, so both of them moved very slowly, sending location coordinates many times and requesting emergency assistance from rescue forces.

Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Vice Chairman of Ta Van Commune People's Committee, said that as soon as receiving the information, Ta Van Commune People's Committee directed and mobilized police and military forces to coordinate with Hoang Lien National Park Forest Protection Department to search for the two lost tourists.

The first search team set off on the evening of September 28, but due to storms and rising stream water, they could not reach the location where the tourist was lost.

On the morning of September 29, the second group, consisting of many forces: forest rangers; militia; Ta Van Commune Police; Sin Chai village residents; Fansipan cable car medical team; Sa Pa Ward Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police continued on their way.

Due to the impact of storm No. 10 and complicated weather conditions, the Commune People's Committee directed forces to fully prepare tools and vehicles and develop specific plans to ensure the safety of rescue forces.

The locality has mobilized a force of nearly 20 people including police officers, soldiers, militia and local citizens who are familiar with the area, able to use positioning devices and communicate in English to participate in the search.

Ta Van Commune People's Committee has closely coordinated with the police force, Hoang Lien Forest Ranger Department and functional forces to provide supplies and support with urgent conditions, bringing the two tourists out of the dangerous area, ensuring absolute safety.

Last March, a Dutch tourist was also found safe by authorities after more than a day lost in Hoang Lien National Park. In November 2024, authorities also found a Swiss tourist after 5 hours lost in the national park.

Hoang Lien National Park is located at an altitude of 1,000-3,000m above sea level, partly in Lao Cai province and partly in Lai Chau province.

Sa Pa is the only representative of Vietnam to appear in the list of most popular mountain destinations in Asia voted by online travel platform Agoda.
